Additional Recruitment & Retention Local Innovation Funds available

Any county department of human/social services or licensed child placement agency (CPA) in Colorado that has not received funding from the 2019-2020 Local Innovation Fund is eligible to receive $1,000 to support local recruitment and retention. Online applications must be received by 5 pm on Wednesday, February 19, 2020. Funds will be awarded by Wednesday 26, 2019. The maximum award amount is $1,000.

Foster parent inquiry form now available on co4kids.org

Since January 27, 2020, members of the public have had access to an online inquiry form at co4kids.org/learn-about-fostering. Prospective foster parents can now request more information from counties and child placement agencies by completing the form and choosing which organizations (up to three) they would like to contact them.

Care portal connects churches with families

El Paso County began a partnership with the Care Portal in 2016 and since then we have been able to meet needs for over 5,000 of our county’s children. Through the Care Portal, a local network of churches, our caseworkers are able to submit requests on behalf of the families we serve.

Nominations for National Foster Care Month 2020

In preparation for National Foster Care Month in May 2020, the Colorado Department of Human (CDHS) is asking individuals, counties and child placement agencies (CPAs) to recognize a dedicated foster parent or parents.The DEADLINE to nominate a family is February 26, 2020.

Adoptive parents nurture both health and identity

Many foster parents will tell you that fostering a child, while emotionally challenging at times, is an incredibly rewarding experience. This is certainly true for Jeremy and Lauryn, two local educators from Centennial. Since adopting their son Kai from foster care, Jeremy and Lauryn have not only nurtured Kai’s health, but have also made profound efforts to create a diverse and inclusive environment that is reflective of his racial identity.

Volunteer for the Denver March PowWow, March 20-22, 2020

The Colorado Department of Human Services is sponsoring an informational booth at the Denver March Powwow, March 20-22, 2019 at the Denver Coliseum. Staff from county departments of human/social services, child placement agencies and other nonprofit partners are invited to volunteer for the booth and share their information about becoming a foster parent.

The annual Powwow attracts thousands of participants and an estimated 95 American Indian Tribes will be represented. Continue reading to sign up.
