Working as a preschool teacher puts your hearing at risk. A Swedish study has found that working in a preschool significantly increases the risk of hearing related problems, including increased risk of tinnitus and hearing loss.
Working in mining, oil and gas extraction
If you are you working in mining, oil and gas extraction, you are in an increased the risk of hearing loss. An American study finds that there is a high prevalence of hearing loss in the mining sector and in some subsectors within oil and gas extraction.
Work noise affects hearing
Chinese workers who are exposed to high levels of work noise have a high prevalence of hearing loss, a study finds. The Chinese study examined workers who were exposed to occupational noise. The study found that hearing difficulty was more prevalent in the noise-exposed group (higher than 85 dBA). Workers with high noise exposure were more likely to have a higher hearing threshold value than low exposure ones.
Playing in a school band?
If you are playing in a school band, you should mind your hearing.
An American study found that playing in a middle or a high school band can result in a minor noise-induced hearing loss. People who play in middle or high school bands have an increased risk of a minor noise-induced hearing loss at some frequencies.
Surfer's ears
If you are a surfer, you are at risk of getting surfer's ears, also know as exostosis. More than 80% of Australian surfers suffer from external auditory exostosis (surfer's ear), according to a study.
In the study, auditory exostosis was diagnosed in 95% of the professional surfers and in 83 % of the recreational surfers. Most of the surfers had external auditory exostosis in both ears.
