We're excited to move into a new year, but we wanted to take a moment to reflect on 2019
Happy New Year Let's Take Time to Reflect
As the new year began, we decide to take a look back at all that was accomplished at your Orpheum Theatre in 2019 – all the great shows, all the fun films, and all the wonderful community engagement that transpired in the theatre over the last year. We do it all for you, but we also do it because of you. None of this could have happened without the thousands of patrons who walked through the doors, and the many donors who stepped up to support us philanthropically through the Friends of the Orpheum program.
Because of you, last year alone, we:
Hosted 85 total events, including 10 sell outs
Kept programming diverse and enriching, with live music, comedy, plays, films, parties, public tours, and more
Welcomed 56,000 people through our doors
Provided hundreds of free tickets to local students and local families serving our country in the military
Installed new aisle lighting in the balcony and executed needed repairs to the canopy under the iconic marquee
We thank you for these, and all of our accomplishments. We look forward to seeing you again at the historic Orpheum Theatre in 2020!

Orpheum Alive! continues tonight with Jenny Wood
??
? Come to the Orpheum...Virtually! Orpheum Alive! continues
with Jenny Wood ?
PREMIERES TONIGHT AT 5PM
Our video concert series, Orpheum Alive, continues tonight with the third and final show in the series and we''re thrilled to wrap things up with?Wichita''s beloved?rocker, Jenny Wood.?
In many ways, Jenny helped inspire this project. When the project was just an idea, Jenny came to mind as a local artist with a strong history on the Orpheum stage. We were proud to host her full concert last December and also to feature her as the local opener for national tours with Three Dog Night and Jonny Lang.
Join us "virtually" as we again feature this amazing rock heroine. Hers is definitely a voice that embodies the series title, Orpheum Alive! The concert goes live at 5pm today, and can be viewed anytime, at your convenience, over the next 30 days.
Orpheum Alive! was professionally produced right here in Wichita by Digital Brands. Funding was made possible by a grant from the COVID-19 Connection Fund at the Wichita Community Foundation, with additional support from members of the Orpheum Producers Circle.
If you aren''t able to?tune?in to the concert series, but still want to?support, you can help?keep the Orpheum alive during the time we are forced to be dark by donating directly to the Orpheum Recovery Fund.

We have reconsidered our plan to reopen July 16. We hope to reschedule soon.
? Orpheum Reopening
Postponed ?
Earlier this week we announced that we would reopen with a reduced-capacity screening of The Color Purple?as scheduled on?July?16. However, due to the July 8 Sedgwick County public health ordinance, the Orpheum Board of Directors has decided to postpone this event. Once we have the ability to open to large gatherings, we will make plans to reschedule.
Please stay tuned for updates as we work to find the best time to reschedule. All currently held tickets will be honored on the new date. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
We miss you and we look forward to when we can see our fans, supporters, and volunteers once again. Until then, be safe!

An all-new video concert series benefiting your historic Orpheum Theatre
??
Introducing... ?
An ALL-NEW VIDEO CONCERT SERIES
We're all disappointed not to be coming to the Orpheum Theatre for live music, so to fill in the gap while the theatre remains closed to the public, we've created Orpheum Alive!, a video concert series produced right here on our historic stage.
These are not your run-of-the-mill live streams, this series features high quality video sessions, professionally filmed, produced, and edited by Digital Brands, a Wichita-based video production company known for producing superior video content.
Orpheum Alive! includes three concerts from these local favorites:
Injoy Fountain | Friday, July 17
Local powerhouse singer featured on season 17 of The Voice
View Injoy Promo Video
Terry Quiett Band | Thursday, July 23
Midwest blues rockers, featuring selections from their soon-to-be-released album,?Truth & Intent
Jenny Wood | Friday, August 7
Wichita''s beloved and empowering rock heroine
Since you can't come to the theatre to enjoy great music in person right now, we hope you'll join us virtually for one - or all - of these upcoming video concerts.?You'll also be supporting your historic Orpheum Theatre, as all proceeds from these three concerts benefit the Orpheum Recovery Fund.?The ticket price for?each concert is a minimum $10 contribution; additional contributions are welcome and encouraged.
Orpheum Alive! is made possible by a grant from the COVID-19 Connection Fund at the?Wichita Community Foundation, with additional support from the members of the Orpheum Producers Circle.

A message from the Orpheum President celebrating National Volunteer Week
??
Celebrating National
Volunteer Week ?
Volunteerism: providing time and skills for the benefit of others rather than for financial benefit.
This week is National Volunteer Week and we would like to dedicate this message to the hardest working volunteers in Wichita - the volunteers at the Orpheum Theatre.
Having spent most of my nonprofit career in the arts sector, I've always been around committed and skilled volunteers. Indeed, nonprofit arts organizations of all types depend upon them. So when I say "the hardest working" it might not be completely objective, but it does come with decades of experience. Orpheum volunteers perform core staffing jobs at all our shows and events. The smiling face of the person who takes your ticket, pours your drink and scoops your popcorn belongs to a volunteer. And that volunteer also arrives early for setup, stays for clean-up, and often even until the last audience member has left the auditorium. They are our on-the-ground staff and truly the only way this nonprofit performing arts center is able to execute 100+ events each year with such a small staff. Because of them, our full-time staff of only six carries the power of 70 people - and more.
Lastly, I'd be remiss not to include a special shout-out to the segment our of volunteers who keep my role as President of the Orpheum from overwhelming me on a daily basis: the Orpheum Board of Directors. At only 11 members, the board is small, but mighty. Their generous financial support is eclipsed only by the donation of their time and talents, all of which make our nonprofit administration hum!
So to all those - at all levels - who give themselves to the historic Orpheum Theatre, we say a very humble but heartfelt "Thank You."
"The value of a volunteer is best measured by the size of their heart." -Anon.
-Diana Gordon, Orpheum President

Let''s Just Call This Intermission Support the Orpheum Today
for #GivingTuesdayNow
TODAY! TUESDAY, MAY 5
Who could have imagined 2020 would unfold as it has? Yet here we are, staying home, missing all the great shows that were scheduled to happen on the historic Orpheum stage. But this too shall pass and the show will go on again.?Let's just call this intermission.
While we are dark, we still need funding to keep the lights on and to be ready to re-open. You can help by making a gift now. It doesn't have to be a lot; how about just the amount you might spend if you were at a show, at the bar, merch,?or concession stand? Maybe you'd spend $10 for a concession combo?-?a?large popcorn and two sodas?-?or $24 on a round of beer for you and your friends. Turn your "intermission" purchase into a gift!
Since 1922, the?Orpheum?has stood through many tumultuous periods in our history. What we do now will make the difference when we re-open the doors and welcome everyone back to the historic Orpheum Theatre.?Many thanks!

Being in shutdown mode has been challenging for the Orpheum on so many levels, finances certainly top that list,?but we understand and support health precautions.?As an organization, nothing is more important to us than the safety and health of our patrons and our community at large, therefore,we?will remain closed for the duration of this month. Meaning, unfortunately, that another movie in our 2020 Anniversary Film Series will be postponed to a later date.?
Additionally, our plans for September remain uncertain.?The Orpheum Board of Directors continues to meet regularly to discuss and assess the current health situation in Sedgwick County and beyond, and we expect a?decision about September movies and shows will be made by August 15.?We will keep you updated, I promise!
If you miss coming to the Orpheum Theatre as much as we are miss having you, consider the opportunity to experience the venue, in a whole new way, virtually, by enjoying one of the three concerts in our Orpheum Alive! Video Concert Series.

We can''t wait to see you again! The Orpheum Board of Directors has approved a plan to reopen July 16.
? We Can''t Wait
to See You Again! ?
TO OUR LOYAL?FANS
The Board of Directors for the historic Orpheum Theatre approved a plan to reopen for the regularly scheduled July installment in the Anniversary Film Series, presented by Emprise Bank, with a 35th anniversary screening of The Color Purple, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2020. Due to reduced capacity with socially distanced seating, this event is limited to film series pass holders only. No individual tickets will be sold.
As the Orpheum opens its doors to audiences following a temporary closure, we are doing everything we can to keep our patrons, volunteers, and staff safe. Here are a few procedures we have in place to keep you safe:
Opening doors early to allow additional time for patrons to arrive and find their seats
Updated seating chart reduced to roughly one-third capacity with social distancing in place
Face coverings required to attend
Clear bag policy to help reduce congestion at security
Additional hand sanitizer stations located throughout the theatre
Limited capacity in lobby areas and restrooms
Limited concession and bar menus to facilitate flow of lines and limit touch points
All volunteers and event staff will wear gloves and face coverings
Staff to continually wipe down and disinfect surfaces throughout the course of the event
We are working to reschedule the four postponed Anniversary Film Series from March through June, including One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Apartment, Clue, and To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar. Beyond the Anniversary Film Series, we are also working to finalize a new summer film series, underwritten by Evergy. Dates for both series will be announced mid-July.
The Board of Directors of the Orpheum Theatre has carefully and fully deliberated on reopening procedures with the safety of our patrons, staff, and volunteers as their top priority. We look forward to welcoming the public back to the historic theatre and are confident that together we can create and maintain a safe entertainment environment for all.

We will weather the storm.
??
A Message from the
Orpheum President ?
As the Orpheum Performing Arts Centre, LTD works to meet the mandated requirements banning public gatherings by postponing shows and placing systems in sleep mode, we realize that this is not the first time our historic venue has experienced trying times. The Orpheum opened in 1922, meaning that its walls have stood through many tumultuous periods in our shared history. From economic depressions and world wars, to presidential assassinations and terrorist attacks, cultural landmarks like our Orpheum Theatre have shown that no matter how hard the wind blows, we will weather the storm.
History is coded into the DNA of this downtown landmark. Our Orpheum has seen Wichitans march off to wars and then welcomed home those who returned. It has lived through the advent of the talking movie, and then the creation of the multiplex cinema which forced a shutdown in 1976, followed by a community effort to save and revive it. Many have passed through?our doors in downtown Wichita over the past 98 years, and they have all left a little piece of their hearts here. We know this because we feel their presence in everything we do.
As I consider all this, I think of the leadership that came before and realize this: we are all just passing through, serving as a caretaker for the present, so that the next generation can take over when it is their time. And that time will come. We will get through this crisis and we will be stronger for it. As we at the Orpheum, and in the arts community locally and around the country, grapple with this issue, I think about a favorite quote of mine, from film and television writer, Aaron Sorkin, "Every time we think we've measured our capacity to meet a?challenge, we look and realize that capacity may well be limitless."
Thank you for your patience and support during this time of uncertainty.
-Diana Gordon, President

VENUES NEED YOUR HELP
Did you know you can help the historic Orpheum Theatre and other local venues?by advocating for the Save Our Stages legislation?
Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) and Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) have introduced the bipartisan Save Our Stages Act to provide Small Business Administration grants for venues, like the Orpheum, who have?been affected by COVID-19 shutdown orders. Follow the link below to contact your legislators and help #SaveOurStages.

October Updates +?Orpheum Alive! Relaunches One Weekend Only
??
? October Updates + Orpheum Alive! Relaunch ?
The Orpheum Board of Directors met last week and voted unanimously to keep the theatre closed through October, for the health and safety of the community, our patrons, staff and volunteers. We will carefully monitor the ongoing COVID-19 situation locally and re-assess monthly. Through September, we held out hope we could at the least reschedule the events in our 2020 Anniversary Film Series, however our team made the difficult decision to officially cancel?the series. If you are a season subscriber, you have already received notification along with instructions for requesting a refund. We are all deeply disappointed not to be able to present the great films we'd selected for 2020, but there's always next year. We are grateful to Emprise Bank for their financial support of the Orpheum Theatre and the Anniversary Film Series.
?I?n the meantime, we are working to keep you connected with the Orpheum and with great music via several virtual options. First, we are relaunching our ?Orpheum Alive!?video concert series for one weekend only,?beginning today through October 5. Enjoy the music of local talents Jenny Wood, Injoy Fountain or the Terry Quiett Band for just $10 per show. Bonus! You get a view of the Orpheum Theatre like no other as you watch their stellar performances.
We are also excited to present the Comfort & Joy At Home?virtual concert tour, featuring a performance?by piano sensation Jim Brickman,?streamed live?just for Orpheum audiences on Sunday, December 13. Tickets are on sale now. Virtual is not the same as live, but it is the next best thing until we can be together in person once again.
Lastly, don't forget that this iconic Wichita theatre still needs your support,?please consider making a gift to the Orpheum Recovery Fund.??
