Cher Wang Announced As The ''Accenture VR Lifetime Achievement'' Award Winner

Ahead of the VR Awards virtual ceremony, Cher Wang Chairwoman and CEO of HTC Corp has been awarded with the Accenture VR Lifetime Achievement Award.

It is the highest accolade given at the VR Awards and celebrates outstanding contributions to virtual reality.

Cher was recognised in particular for her exceptional contribution towards a holistic VR ecosystem and for creating an engineering powerhouse in HTC ahead of the ubiquity of smartphones.

"I am honoured to receive this award, and dedicate it to all of our teams and partners who dared to dream and are working hard to make the vision happen," said Cher who will receive her award during the VR Awards ceremony on November 12th. Watch the monumental award ceremony live!

NVIDIA launches RTX 3060 Ti, its most affordable 'Ampere' architecture graphics card yet. Supporting flagship features like accelerated ray-tracing, DLSS 2.0, and RTX IO. The RTX 3060 Ti has been introduced as the most affordable GPU in the lineup.

Qualcomm announced its 2021 flagship chipset this week, Snapdragon 888. It claims the new GPU is 35% more powerful than the one in Oculus Quest 2. The original Oculus Quest shipped in mid 2019 but used the Snapdragon 835 - Qualcomm's 2017 flagship.

'VRChat' Launches Premium Membership. Social VR platform VRChat has rolled out a premium subscription service which brings new features to users looking to support the free app. VRChat Plus is now available on steam in its Early Supporter phase.

Microsoft confirms that Microsoft Flight Sim 2020 will be receiving official VR support shortly after launch. Microsoft seems to now also be shifting plans to include all PC VR headsets. More information is expected Dec.17th as part of the Feature Discovery Series. VR support will arrive on PC VR headsets Dec.22nd for free.

Super Nintendo World Theme Park will include an AR Mario Kart Roller coaster.
Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios launches officially in February 2021 in Osaka, Japan.
The park's first flagship attraction includes: Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge, an AR-enhanced interactive rollercoaster powered via a combination of AR and projection mapping technology.

AR Goggles For Dogs, HP Get VR Serious & $25 Million investments

Facebook''s Oculus Quest 2 ships out this month with a starting price of $299?. It's official, the Quest 2 VR headset ships this October 13 at a lower price than anticipated. Specifications include Qualcomm's latest XR2 chipset with upgrades including a 90 hz mode and much higher resolution. This release has been a controversial one, as Quest 2 now requires your Facebook account and many users have voiced their concerns regarding online privacy.

The Reverb G2 Omnicept is HP's next enterprise headset. When it comes to enterprise solutions HP has just unveiled the Reverb G2 Omnicept, packed with analytical tech for training and educational purposes by adding real-time human analytics and every tracking solution a company could want in a VR headset.

Researchers are now equipping military dogs with AR goggles. Army researchers have developed augmented reality goggles for military working dogs that would allow handlers to give commands while staying out of harm's way. The Army''s Small Business Innovation Research program and the Army Research Office have developed in-action goggles where directional commands can be given from a distance.

Ones to Keep an Eye On

HaptX receive $1.5 million to develop full body haptics?. HaptX, the company behind the force feedback haptic gloves, have secured a grant from the National Science Foundation. The grant will allow HaptX, partners and research teams to build full-body haptic and force feedback tech for VR and robotics called 'Forcebot.

Hyundai Mobis aims to improve road safety through AR HUD technology. One of the biggest auto parts company in the world, Hyundai Mobis, have invested $25 million in Envisics, a UK-based augmented reality HUD provider. In response to the growing need and interest for self-driving cars, Hyundai aims to increase safety on the roads through AR technology where real-time information can be projected onto the windshields.

David Attenborough takes us on a journey into the world of Micro Monsters. Emmy Award-Winning studio, Alchemy Immersive and Oculus from Facebook, partner for a continuation of 'Micro Monsters' narrated by the legendary David Attenborough. Oculus users will be able to discover the hidden world of our planet's insects in live-action VR.

VR Tourism Replaces Holidays, Can PS5 Handle VR? and HTC founder takes Accenture VR Lifetime Achievement Award

Cher Wang, Founder of HTC, recognised with ‘Accenture VR Lifetime Achievement Award’ in advance of the fourth international VR Awards taking place on 12th November, the winner of this year’s ‘Accenture VR Lifetime Achievement’ award winner was unveiled to be Cher Wang, founder of consumer electronics giant, HTC.

PSVR games with unlocked framerate resolution could see PS5 improvements. According to the PlayStation Blog, some “games with unlocked framerates or dynamic resolution up to 4K may see higher fidelity” on the PS5. This could mean that games that don’t place a specific cap on their framerates or resolutions may see automatic boosts when running on the console

Facebook’s cloud gaming service and looking towards VR streaming. Facebook recently announced the launch of cloud-streamed games from Facebook Gaming. One way to make games more widely accessible and playable on less powerful hardware. Facebook is also betting that one day they’ll be able to do the same for VR.

Ones to Keep an Eye On

Is virtual reality tourism the alternative to holidays abroad? In the absence of travellers, tourism boards, hotels and destinations have turned to virtual reality to keep would-be visitors interested and prepare for the long road to recovery.

Zoomtopia 2020 is bringing a whole suite of platform enhancements. Designed to provide more immersive, secure, and collaborative experiences as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to lurch on, Zoom announced a slew of new features to help improve its offering for remote workers.

Gazelli Art House London To Open Permanent Virtual Reality Library?. Gazelli Art House founder Mila Askarova announced the opening of Gazelli’s Virtual Reality Library in the newly renovated lower ground space of the London gallery on Dover Street.

Augmented Reality Repairs Eye Socket, No AR Tech For Facebook Smart Glasses and Quest 2 Outgrows Original

Facebook Smart Glasses arriving without AR. Facebook Inc.’s planned smart glasses will arrive “sooner than later” in 2021, but won’t feature the kind of digital overlay technology that is associated with augmented reality, according to hardware chief Andrew Bosworth. “These are certainly connected glasses, they are certainly providing a lot of functionality, [but] we’re being quite coy about which functionality precisely we are providing,”

Oculus Quest 2 outgrew the original in less than 7 weeks, with the obstacles we faced in 2020, Facebook’s conviction into VR and AR only grew stronger as reflected in how many people are using Quest 2 to stay fit, play games and collaborate for work. Andrew Bosworth wrote “There has never been a better time to get in the lab and build products that deliver meaningful social presence, and to do so in a responsible, privacy-centric way.”

CES goes virtual in 2021. This year's annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is going to be an exclusively virtual event for the first time in its history. Instead of over 120,000 people coursing through the halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center, the 2021 event will feature live and on-demand broadcasts and "virtual" exhibitor booths.

Ones to Keep an Eye On

Surgeons complete eye socket repair using Metal Additive Manufacturing and Augmented Reality. The innovative surgery combined Augmented Reality (AR) technology and metal Additive Manufacturing to repair a patient’s eye socket.The patient had received a severe injury, fracturing his left eye socket and causing him to experience double vision and a loss of facial symmetry.

Cybershoes’ Kickstarter ends with almost $100,000. Launched in November, the Cybershoes for Oculus Quest campaign ended with triple the amount of its funding goal. Cybershoes managed to raise $98,420 USD from 470 backers.

Virtual reality is being used by Tyne and Wear Metro drivers to test a new fleet of trains in a Covid-secure way. The computer-generated images give drivers a virtual tour of the controls and layout of the cabs so they can provide feedback before they are built. Metro operator Nexus said the headsets were a "vital tool" to get train crews ready for the new £362m fleet.
