Welcome to our fourth issue of Quest for 2019.

In this issue we've gathered stories about the impact of community based adult learning programs from around Australia.

In this issue we profile a community resource centre in the bushfire ravaged town of Yarloop in WA that is playing a lead role in the healing and rebuilding of the community.

We know that low rates of adult literacy go hand in hand with poorer health and wellbeing not just in Australia but around the world. In this issue we interview a researcher exploring how adult literacy programs for Indigenous Australians are affecting individual and community health.

We profile a Wiser Driver course in metropolitan Melbourne that is improving the safety and confidence of older Victorians behind the wheel.

We've also got stories about the Victorian government's recently released Ministerial Statement on Adult Community Education (ACE) and a state-by-state round up of ACE news to round off the year.

ALW''s response to COVID19

In these challenging times, we have had to rethink how we promote and publicise learning opportunities during Adult Learners Week.

This year we are expanding our focus beyond ALW specific events and celebrations to include all adult learning activities or programs run during 1-8 Sept that are:

virtual or face to face
one off or ongoing
low or no cost.

Plus, if you have a course or class running during ALW where current enrolments have closed but you will be taking new enrolments in the future - you can add it to the directory and we will promote it.

This is a great opportunity for you to highlight the range of programs that your organisation offers during September and beyond.

Extending early bird registrations

Get onboard with your virtual events as well

Get your #ALW2020 events registered on the Adult Learners Week website before 10 August 2020 and you will have the chance to win 1 of 20 x $200.00 grants. You can use this money to help you run an awesome event during Adult Learners Week. Register now.

Scholarships

There are 3 x $1000 #ALW2020 scholarships for outstanding adult learners to enable them to continue learning either by taking a new learning pathway or continuing on an existing one. It''s so easy to nominate so get your applications in.

Resources and downloads

Adult Learning Australia will be coordinating an #ALW2020 national media strategy. Plus there are heaps of resources available on the ALW website so you can brand your #ALW2020 events. Check them out here. The new ALW posters and bookmarks are on their way. We have also included some resources for running events during COVID restrictions.

After you register your event/s remember to share it on social media using the hashtag #ALW2020 #RenewYou. We will be doing the same on the ALW Facebook page.
