Short course: Use of decision support tools for rapid barrier assessment and restoration of stream connectivity
We would like to invite you to attend the short course on The Use of Decision Support Tools for Rapid Barrier Assessment and Restoration of Stream Connectivity, taking place in Lisbon on the 28th of June during the 2020 International Conference on River Connectivity (Fish Passage 2020).

This one-day course will cover pressing topics on how to:
  • estimate river fragmentation based on barrier inventory
  • use decision support tools for barrier prioritization and mitigation
  • do a rapid barrier assessment considering fish habitat
  • use telemetry for rapid barrier assessment
The course will be delivered by experts from the UK (Carlos Garcia de Leaniz, Josh Jones, Jesse O'Hanley, Paul Kemp, Jim Kerr, Martyn Lucas); Italy (Barbara Belletti), Poland (Piotr Parasiewicz), and Denmark (Kim Birnie-Gauvin). Please register to attend this course (course 3 on the Fish Passage registration website)

There are bursaries available for postgraduates to attend this course please click here to apply for a fee waiver (110 EUR). You could also be eligible to claim up to 50 EUR towards travelling expenses. If you know students interested in this topic, please share this opportunity.

Our rivers have barriers - they are disconnected from the sea. Weirs, small hydropower or big dams provide water, irrigation, energy production, and flood protection. But barriers block rivers, fragment waterways, isolate habitats and weaken wildlife populations. In just 3 years, AMBER delivered the first Atlas of river barriers across Europe.

Join us on the 29th of June for our final event!

We would like to invite you to the AMBER & FITHYDRO EVENT - SMART WAYS TO IMPROVE RIVER CONNECTIVITY. This event will take place in Lisbon on the 29th of June during the 2020 International Conference on River Connectivity (Fish Passage 2020); the event is free you only need to register online to attend - no fees will be charged.

The event will bring together experts, managers, stakeholders and companies from around the world to discuss our rivers, their barriers and better ways to manage and mitigate barrier impacts. We have an exciting programme, with over 12 speakers, three facilitated discussions on pressing topics: 1) the need to reconnect rivers; 2) innovations: tools and solutions for better management and 3) applications: a framework to reconnect Europe's rivers.

We will also be showing the documentary DURIENSES: the endemic species of the River Douro.

Our rivers have barriers - they are disconnected from the sea. Weirs, small hydropower installations or big dams provide water, irrigation, energy production, and flood protection. But barriers block rivers, fragment waterways, isolate habitats and weaken wildlife populations. In just 3 years, AMBER delivered the first Atlas of river barriers across Europe.

Join us in Lisbon to learn more about our rivers.
