From the Archives: This week, we crack open the Photo Space''s events archive to present two great lectures by photographer and Gallery View: A Virtual Portfolio Review expert reviewer Ami Vitale. Back in 2010, she discussed her work on the Pakistani-Indian border, a time when Vitale captured a photograph featured in our W|ALLS exhibit. And in 2014, she returned to the Photo Space to share how she connected with people and cultures around the world to tell compelling visual stories. Film Corner: On May 21, Biggie would have turned 48. Let’s make sure that this year, his birthday is not the worst day – maybe sip a little champagne if you’re thirst-ay, and watch some of our all-time favorite hip-hop classics. First, check out Nas: Time is Illmatic, a tribute to one of the illest lyricists known to man. Next, Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels Of A Tribe Called Quest is a film that depicts the group A Tribe Called Quest, which popularized the "conscious hip-hop” movement. Of course, no list of classic hip-hop films would be complete without Style Wars, the ever-so 1980s documentary about one of the pillars of hip-hop culture – graffiti. And, last but not least, Notorious (no, not Hitchcock’s 1960s noir) to celebrate the man of the week himself.
