Message from our Chief Executive Officer
Hi everyone,
Welcome to another bumper edition of eNews from the lands of the Boon Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. I hope this message finds you well.
As the days get longer and warmer and gardens burst with renewed activity, it seemed appropriate that the Victorian government announced the easing of restrictions across the state. We are excited about the opportunities that this will bring and we are busy following the Victorian Government guidelines and working on our plan to reopen. Please check our website, Facebook or Twitter to keep up to date.

Our next, and last, Gathering of 2020 will be on Tuesday 24 November. Please join us! We'll be wrapping up this year's sessions and discussing plans for next year. It's been an incredible opportunity to connect with you all, meet new artists and find out how you want to connect with us.
Speaking of artists, we are super excited the artists at our Nimbus Studio are exhibiting as part of this year's Melbourne Fringe Festival. Their online exhibition Ether will be launching on 20 November. Check it out to find out what they've been creating since March.
Last but not least, we wish the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Community a joyful and safe NAIDOC Week.
Warmest regards,
Caroline

Future in Retrograde: Storytelling and Inclusion on Screen
The six-part ABC TV series ''Retrograde'' - about a group of thirty-something Australians who regularly meet, drink and commiserate online during the Covid pandemic - has been one of the big Australian TV hits of 2020. But the show has not just been praised for its clever format, resourceful production and snappy dialogue. It's also been embraced for its authentic representation of disability and chronic illness on screen.
In this panel discussion, presented in partnership with The Other Film Festival and the Wheeler Centre, Retrograde's creators will discuss what they loved, and what they learned, while making this groundbreaking show. They'll talk, too, about how screen professionals living with disability - who are often more practised and adept at navigating restrictions on social and workplace activity - can lead the way when it comes to innovative production during Covid-19.
This is a free online event. Please join us on Thursday 12 November, 6.15 pm - 7.15 pm. It will be Auslan interpreted and live-captioned. Book your tickets.

The Gathering: coming together for information, support, and critical discussion
The Gathering is an online forum for Deaf and Disabled artists held on the last Tuesday of every month. It is hosted on Zoom by our CEO, Caroline Bowditch, with a range of guests. These sessions have been a great way to meet other artists, find out about grant opportunities or other programs for artists, and take part in critical discussions about the arts sector in Australia.
Since May, artists from all over Australia have met and discussed issues, such as disability leadership, art in a pandemic, equity versus equality, visions for the sector, and much more. Previous Gatherings have welcomed presentations from Creative Victoria, the City of Melbourne, and Melbourne Fringe Festival. We also celebrated the 2020 Stella Young Award winner!
The Gathering is a space for us to talk about what we're working on and where we're going. Sessions are always Auslan interpreted, and you can contribute as much or as little as you'd like.
Join us on Tuesday 24 November, 2.30pm - 4 pm, as we reflect on 2020, and look ahead to 2021. Please RSVP by 4pm Monday 23 November with any access requirements to rsvp@artsaccess.com.au and we will send you a Zoom link for the session.
