World AIDS Day 2019

World AIDS Day takes place each year on December 1st. The annual observation is held to bring attention to the global impact of HIV/AIDS. A great way to honor #WAD2019 is by checking out some of ASHA's resources on HIV prevention and awareness.

The theme for 2019 is �Ending the HIV/AIDS Epidemic: Community by Community.� You can keep up with World AIDS Day on Social Media by following #WAD2019.

Giving Tuesday!

Giving Tuesday is a global day dedicated to giving back. Will you take a minute and support ASHA's work to promote sexual health for all? It�s never been more important for individuals, families, and communities to have access to medically accurate sexual health information and support services delivered in a respectful, compassionate manner.

ASHA launched new resources for active duty service members, including a video with certified sexologist and intimacy coach Shan Boodram sharing real stories from real members of the military. We�ve also developed printable materials and a list of resources for service members.

The eleventh annual World Sexual Health Day, organized by our friends the World Association of Sexual Health (WAS), takes place today, September 4th, and the theme for this year''s observation is Sexual Pleasure in Times of COVID-19.

We all have masks and hand sanitizer, true enough, so we put together a primer on sex and intimate contact because, well, 2020.

ASHA stands in solidarity with protesters across the country demanding an end to police brutality and the institutionalized racism that underpins it. Racism is insidious, pervasive and tightly woven into the fabric of our nation. Its tentacles are far reaching. Enough.

The Health Is Power toolkit is designed for organizations to better promote sexual health among young African American men (ages 18-30). The toolkit is designed mainly for heterosexual men, but also includes imagery and messaging that can be used with gay and bisexual men.

Sexual Health and the Adolescent Male is a webinar for health professionals who care for boys and young men. This activity covers important topics areas across several domains of sexual health including relationships, sexual orientation and gender identity, interpersonal issues, and sexually transmitted infections.

In each category you'll find checklists to suggest questions for your next adolescent male clinical visit. The webinar features insights from J. Dennis Fortenberry, MD, Professor of Pediatrics with the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Talking to a healthcare provider about your sexual health can be intimidating. You might feel embarrassed about the questions that you have; you might not want to admit to certain feelings or fears about your health. However, being able to talk to your healthcare provider about your physical health as it relates to your sexual health is absolutely crucial. Ten Questions to Ask has tools for finding the right provider and talking with them once you do.

With mandatory mask wearing and physical distancing of at least six feet becoming the norm around the nation, the question remains-is sex safe? In short-it can be, but experts say any type of in-person sexual activity does carry some risk. But there are ways to have intimate contact and remain connected.

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is very common but often confused with yeast or other infections, leading many to self-treat ineffectively. Untreated BV can cause health issues so a proper diagnosis and prescribed treatment are both important. In this episode of the ASHA podcast Jenelle Marie Pierce, health educator and executive director of the TheSTIProject.com, shares her experiences in coping with BV and offers tips on talking with health care providers.

Sex+Health ? Understanding Bacterial Vaginosis (BV)

Patients who are well-informed about tests and procedures are empowered health care consumers. Understanding Cervical Cancer Screening is an interactive tool designed to take the mystery out of the process so patients feel confident to speak-up and become advocates for their own health.

ASHA is pleased to offer two new continuing education activities for healthcare providers:

Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause: Provider and Patient Perspective, a podcast featuring a discussion between a provider and patient on GSM diagnosis and treatment, and;
Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause: A Clinician's Guide to Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment, a webinar covering epidemiology, etiology, screening, diagnosis, and treatment of GSM.

Both are available for ANCC credit for nurses and for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsT for physicians.
