A New Moon of Epic Proportions

This weekend's New Moon in Scorpio, taking place on November 14-15, late Saturday evening on the west coast, early morning Sunday for the east coast and Europe, is a rather remarkable lunation. The triple conjunction of Saturn, Jupiter, and Pluto is reaching its peak, now that Jupiter has moved forward to lie between the other two, in a culmination of the Saturn-Pluto combination that has been active all year, beginning January 10th, and that has signaled a societal transformation that was being discussed by astrologers several years back, when the November timeframe was singled out.

As a side note it is somewhat ludicrous that disparaging remarks have flown around regarding the fact that astrologers did not predict the Covid pandemic, when in fact they predicted a huge societal reset this year, because of Saturn-Pluto, and Saturn-Jupiter-Pluto in this very month. Now, here we are...

A July Month of Facing Reality and Rising to Its Challenge

The month of July brings along with it further transformation, as indicated by the ongoing T-square to Pluto from new planets Eris and Haumea, in opposition. They aspect by partile square alignment the tight Jupiter-Pluto conjunction at 24 plus degrees of Capricorn. 

Eris represents a Feminine Warrior archetype in support of soul intention, as well as taking individual responsibility, very fitting in the current social context where each individual has to contribute to either the solution or else the problem. 

Haumea, less well understood, represents profound connection to Nature, and to natural law, as has come up recently in the worldwide protests for equality in criminal justice.

Additionally, we have the recent solstice eclipse New Moon, at 0 degrees of Cancer, a configuration that serves as an indication for the final six months of the year. This showed a continuing powerful presence of transformational Pluto, the Lord of Death and Rebirth, and of limiting Saturn. 

Pluto was opposed by the eclipse Sun and Moon, by sign, and the eclipse degree made a partile inconjunct (quincunx) aspect to retrograde Saturn, at 0 Aquarius, bringing limitation and structural societal change firmly into the picture. This is just as Saturn is preparing to slip backward into Capricorn, there to join Jupiter and Pluto. These planets are stationing to direct motion next September and October, as they work their way back toward their triple conjunction with Saturn that is taking place in mid-November...

Mars Retrograde 2020: Embracing Sacred Volition

From September 9th until November 13th Mars will be on a retrograde journey through his home sign from 28? to 15? of Aries. During this time we can expect to see all of Mars' themes come to the fore in a thoughtful and introspective manner as we adjust our assertiveness. Mars represents our willpower, ability to take action, raw wildness, and inner masculine life force, and we will be examining these factors from the inside out.

Mars' energetic signature has a hot, sharp and piercing quality to it. This energy as we experience and embody it can be utilized in multitude of ways, and when it's expressed in a helpful way it can lend us focus to take action, to cut away that which is not essential. Conversely it can also lend itself towards violence and aggression causing unhelpful divisiveness or separation.

When Mars is retrograde we may experience a heightened awareness around our own relationship to our inner warrior nature, how we handle conflict, and - in a best case scenario - opportunity to find new and empowered ways of aligning our will and actions with our own sense of purpose and higher good in the world...

An August Month of Further Transformation and Staying the Course

This second month of deep summer brings something of a repetition of the previous month, as far as the major astrological configurations are concerned. Pluto and Saturn are each quite powerfully configured in the July 20th New Moon that precedes the current month, while the separation of Saturn and Pluto is slowly dropping as Saturn continues its current retrograde motion, to four degrees by the end of August, then to three by mid-September, so that Saturn and Pluto are becoming more active as well in combination. Saturn with Pluto has been the key outer planet configuration of this 2020 Covid season, beginning with their exact alignment on January 10th, as highlighted by the nearby lunar eclipse. The difficult implication from their current prominence therefore is that, in spite of renewed efforts to suppress it, this deadly virus infection is likely getting worse rather than better. This applies most directly to the U.S., where it has never really gotten under control, and additionally applies to other parts of the world also, where we may well see a resurgence.

What is the potential impact and effect on our individual lives in this season of disease and economic disaster? For one thing, there is no simple escape route from this virulent illness, not until after the end of the year, and perhaps not until the spring and summer of 2021. The ongoing social distancing requirement and cultural rearrangement presents a challenge to each one of us individually, and we must, each one of us individually, rise to meet it, keeping ourselves and others safe. More importantly, this massive social and economic slowdown has given us a chance to get off the treadmill, to stop for a minute and truly self-examine, preparing the way for necessary changes that we might begin to make in our personal lives. A further challenge of the pandemic therefore raises the question of whether we are willing to give up habitual and yet dysfunctional parts of ourselves. Is there a way that we can summon the courage to make needed changes, and to let go of behaviors that no longer serve us? That is the looming question of these Covid times...

A New Moon of Major Structural Transformation

Friday's mid-day Pacific Time October 16th Libra New Moon, taking place later in the afternoon or evening for the east coast and Europe, is another powerful lunation, perhaps even stronger than these last few significant cycles. The next New Moon of mid-November is even more potent. We are therefore in for it, as individuals and in collective terms, for these next sixty days, at least, right up to the end of this rather insane year.

The joke goes that future generations will make this 2020 number, far from representing perfect vision, rather an adjective of disaster: "Everything was going ok when my car suddenly went all 2020 on me!" The reason for this current lunation being extra-powerful, bringing the Saturn-Pluto situation to a head, along with the strong presence of both Uranus and Neptune, is that the New Moon degree of 23, almost 24 Libra is precisely square to Saturn-Pluto, and to Pluto individually, being also in a tight opposition of less than ? degree to Eris in Aries, greatly heightening the tension...

A Last Quarter of Misinformation and Spiritual Opportunity

This Friday's late afternoon Last Quarter Moon at 17 + degrees of Cancer -  taking place early morning Saturday, October 10^th, for Europe and points east -  is quite special, being perfectly trine deceptive Neptune, while Jupiter lies in partile sextile to Neptune, and with the Sun making an inconjunct or quincunx aspect to this oceanic and numinous archetypal energy. That is quite a lot of Neptune! Generally speaking, we might for the weekend expect things to be mentally a little foggy. The Neptune archetype takes us right out of the physical plane, to what lies Beyond, and is therefore uncomfortable within the normative 3D everyday reality, sewing confusion, idealization, and self-deception, or outright misinformation intended to deceive. This archetype is also spiritual in its essential nature. We might want to recall in this regard the famous lines from the Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit, "When logic, and proportion, have fallen soggy dead/ And the White Knight is talking backwards/ And the Red Queen's 'off with her head!' / Remember what the Dormouse said / Feed your head - feed your head." There is thus in fact also a distinct spiritual component to this current presence of powerfully invoked Neptune, to which we now turn.
 
Additionally, in this potent Last Quarter Moon configuration, we find Jupiter and Uranus both strongly highlighted, and this has implications for new ideas of Spirit emerging into the zeitgeist. The Sun and Moon closely oppose and square Jupiter in Capricorn. Uranus, at 9 ? degrees of Taurus, is trined by Venus, and closely opposed by a slowing Mercury, about to retrograde starting next week, on the 13^th. Mercury is already significantly slowing down and is thus more potent, so that our thoughts and communications could more directly partake of fresh and yet also somewhat illogical conceptions, as indicated by the Trickster archetype. Furthermore, Uranus aspects Neptune as well, in a mystical septile aspect within about ? degree. The collusion between Neptune and Uranus in this configuration is quite telling, redolent of novel spiritual conceptions, and along with prominent Jupiter, brings an optimistic air to the proceedings...

A September Month of Limitation and Opportunity

September is an interesting transitional month between the trials of this past summer and the further trials of a volatile fall season. There continues to be a strong emphasis on Saturn, indicating contraction, limitation, slow-downs, and dedication to purpose. There is also a contrasting degree of openness from the presence of the revolutionary trickster energy of Uranus, in the lunations of the current month. Where Saturn says "I cannot" Uranus says "why not?" and "Yes, I can." Saturn acts as an inhibitor to moving too far, too fast, while Uranus gives encouragement to this very vision. It's actually sort of like the two political parties squaring off in the US at this time.

On the basis of personal development, we are caught in the middle, with a nay-saying angel on one shoulder insisting on a thoughtful exercise of reasonable caution before jumping off the deep end, while on the other shoulder sits the Fool card in the Tarot, carelessly stepping off the cliff, confident in the regenerative powers of the universe to support and to save him. In truth it will take a combination of these influences to see us through the growing crises of our civilization in the midst of a health, an economic, and a political disaster...
