The second Ionian Contemporary Animation Festival ICONA 2020, organized and promoted by the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University had a great participation with more than 1.200 submissions of movies.

The screenings of the festival, which will take place exclusively online, from December the 4th until December the 6th, 2020, will be available worldwide only for registered users with password.

The second Ionian Contemporary Animation Festival ICONA 2020, organized and promoted by the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University had a great participation with more than 1.200 submissions of movies.

Although competition was fierce, the committee's work was successfully completed with a selection of 215 films - 153 short films and 63 student films – from 80 countries.

First of all, we would like to thank everyone who submitted their films to the ICONA festival and congratulate the final contestants.

The aim of the Ionian Contemporary Animation Festival ICONA 2020 is to present the best from the field of animation from all around the world. The festival also aims to preserve and help develop the cultural heritage of animated film, contribute to creation of new films, provide ground for potential international co-productions and encourages dialogue between professionals, filmmakers and the public.

ICONA 2020 is organized and promoted by the Department of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University.
ICONA 2020 will take place exclusively ONLINE from December 4th to December 6th 2020.

The competition programme of ICONA 2020 consists of the following categories:
Category I. Short Films
International Competition of Short Films
Category II. Student Films
International Competition of Student Films

Only films made after January 1st 2019 can enter the competition. Films selected for the competition will be assessed by the festival selection committee. Each participant who submitted a film is subsequently informed about the result.

The jurors give out the following awards:

a) The Award for the Best Short Film comes with a financial prize of 500 EUR.
b) The Award for the Best Student Film comes with a financial prize of 300 EUR.
c) The Audience Award for the Best Short Film
d) The Audience Award for the Best Student Film
e) Two Honorary Distinctions in Category I
f) Two Honorary Distinctions in Category II

Important dates:
Announcement of the competition: 11th September 2020.
Application submission deadline: 15th October 2020.
Notification date: 16th November 2020.

ICONA 2020 Awards and Mentions

The second Ionian Contemporary Animation Festival ICONA 2020, organized by the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University took place exclusively online from December 4th to December 6th 2020.

The festival culminated in Sunday, December the 6th, 2020, online (via zoom meeting), where the awards' announcement ceremony was held.

The ceremony included short addresses by representantives from institutions, the academic community and the ICONA Festival Jury.

The awards are divided into jury awards and audience awards. The audience awards came from an electronic voting system that was available to the public during the screenings of the festival.

Winners from Singapore, UK, Portugal, India, Hungary and the United States attended the Live Ceremony and talked about their awarded films.
