BDT''s work is about more than using data-driven initiatives to streamline access to public benefits - it''s about giving individuals and families the opportunity to live healthier lives and make decisions that best fit their needs. Meet Robin Gentry, a BDT client in Philadelphia, who recently spoke to Alfred Lubrano of The Philadelphia Inquirer about her experience accessing SNAP after receiving an outreach letter from BDT.
"Life got very much easier," she said. "The letter was a wonderful thing - exciting. I didn't know how to balance food and bills. These people reached out to others who need help desperately and didn't know where to turn."

Leona is a technology executive with over 25 years of experience integrating business strategy, operations, and technology to enable for- and nonprofits to achieve their goals. We sat down with Leona - remotely - to learn a bit more about her.
What drew you to BDT?

When did you first start your journey in the data and tech space?
"I learned programming in junior high and then studied electronics in high school, which eventually led to an opportunity with Digital Equipment Corporation through one of its engineering scholarship and trainee programs."
Beyond your impressive professional endeavors, do you participate in any community-based activities?
"I'm a huge proponent for fostering community, so I've been a long-standing board member and co-chair of Strategic Planning for the William Way Community Center. COVID-19 has led to a health and economic crisis of epic proportions. Record-high unemployment rates created an increased need for assistance to help people pay for food, housing, healthcare, and more. Since the onset of COVID-19, we have seen as high as a 145% increase in calls coming into the call center. During this time, we simultaneously faced the unexpected and unbudgeted expenses of quickly transitioning our staff of 200+ to work remotely in compliance with social distancing guidelines.
To the partners who have made our continued work possible during this unprecedented time: Thank you. Without you, we could not have begun to tackle the challenges brought on by these extraordinary circumstances to connect those in need to critical public benefits. Though we have made great strides during this global crisis, we know that our work is far from over. We look forward to bettering the future of benefits access alongside our partners and communities.
