The arrival of any new Quentin Tarantino movie is a reason to celebrate. They only come around once every so often, they inspire all manner of interesting debates, and they're never, ever bad. ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD, Tarantino's ninth (and, according to the man himself, penultimate) movie might just be his masterpiece.

To celebrate, this week's BMD Newsletter is entirely Quentin Tarantino-themed. The Summer is most definitely here.

Whole bunch of stuff happening this week, friends, and most of it was good!

For starters, we saw Ari Aster's HEREDITARY follow-up, MIDSOMMAR, and are pleased to report that it'll shake you to your very core. We also learned that Blumhouse is gearing up to shoot a sequel to last year's HALLOWEEN, and that Jamie Lee Curtis is back on board to play Laurie Strode one last time! And if that's not enough horror news for you, how about this: Glenn Danzig (of all people) just made the horror genre's answer to THE ROOM. We've seen that one, too, and it blew our damn minds.

Elsewhere, we got a look at a few new photos from the set of Amazon's DARK TOWER series (it looks great); found out the Alamo Drafthouse is finally opening their Los Angeles location next month; we were absolutely not surprised upon learning that Marvel's bringing AVENGERS: ENDGAME back to theaters with new footage (the better to beat AVATAR's worldwide box office record with, naturally); and - last, but certainly not least - we celebrated the news that Netflix's I THINK YOU SHOULD LEAVE is getting a second season.

You want trailers? 'Cuz we got trailers.

This year's SDCC is already in full swing, and with its arrival has come an onslaught of new posters, project announcements and - perhaps most importantly - brand spankin' new movie trailers. Sooo many new trailers.

Yesterday alone delivered four of them to our door, including our first look at Tom Hooper's CATS (the response was not great!), our latest look at IT: CHAPTER TWO (somehow not as scary as the CATS trailer), a truly awesome new trailer for James Gray's INTERSTELLAR-esque AD ASTRA (starring Brad Pitt as the world's most handsomest astronaut) and our very first peek at the long-awaited TOP GUN sequel, TOP GUN: MAVERICK. Just tons of new stuff.

You can find all of these trailers, along with new footage from David Leitch's TERMINATOR: DARK FATE and, uh, Rob Zombie's 3 FROM HELL, via the links we've provided for you below. Every last one of 'em is worth watching.

But that wasn't all you shouldn't have missed on the site this week! We also scored an exclusive first look at Titan Books' amazing new tome, THE MAKING OF ALIEN (and an interview with the author!), learned that Quentin Tarantino's long-gestating STAR TREK project would basically be "PULP FICTION in space", found out our Austin friends will soon be seeing TOMBSTONE and TOP GUN with Val Kilmer in attendance (we're so hyped), and - last, but certainly not least - we found out that Taika Waititi is coming back to direct the next THOR movie. Good news wherever you look!

It's The End Of The X-MEN Franchise As We Know It (And We Feel Fine)

Simon Kinberg's DARK PHOENIX arrives in theaters this weekend after a number of production delays, setbacks and reshoots. It brings Fox's decades-long X-MEN franchise to a close with a retelling of the Dark Phoenix Saga, and...well, we had some good times over the years, X-MEN, but it's time to move on now. You will be missed (until the inevitable MCU reboot, which oughtta be announced any time now).

Meanwhile, HBO's CHERNOBYL - surely due to be named amongst the 2019's best TV shows come year's end - brought things to a chilling conclusion; the very first AD ASTRA trailer arrived, sending Brad Pitt into space on a most dangerous mission; an animated JURASSIC PARK TV series was announced; and the Russo Brothers revealed that they were bringing MAGIC: THE GATHERING to Netflix.

That wasn't all, though. As you'll see below, we also learned about a potential DJANGO UNCHAINED sequel (which may or may not have Quentin Tarantino co-writing the script), questioned our allegiance to the GODZILLA franchise, found out about a brand-new, Pride Month-friendly edition of THE BABADOOK, and we had our eyeballs melted by a stunningly colorful poster for Patty Jenkins' WONDER WOMAN 1984.

The fact that Mike Flanagan's DOCTOR SLEEP is a sequel to THE SHINING is no secret - we've known what DOCTOR SLEEP is for years, ever since Stephen King published the novel. But this week we learned that Mike Flanagan's DOCTOR SLEEP isn't just a sequel to THE SHINING - it's a sequel to Stanley Kubrick's version of THE SHINING. We were, to say the least, surprised.

That wasn't the only surprise this week: we also learned that Denis Villeneuve is spearheading a new DUNE TV series, to coincide with the director's DUNE film (due next year from Legendary); that Steven Spielberg is writing a horror series for the Quibi streaming service; that LOBO (of all characters) is getting his own Syfy series; and, last but certainly not least, that Keanu Reeves will star in the highly-anticipated video game CYBERPUNK 2077.

Much Like Spider-Man, Summer Is In Full Swing

The sun is shining, the heat index is through the roof, the beers are on ice, and Spider-Man is headed back to theaters. Summer 2019 feels like it's been going on for months now, but for our money - it's really only just beginning.

We caught SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME earlier this week, and are pleased to report the news is good (you can read our review below). Three decades past the arrival of Tim Burton's BATMAN, superhero movies are bigger than ever, and after a few rocky entries, the SPIDER-MAN franchise really appears to have found its footing again. More importantly, this new one has Mysterio in it. Do you have any idea how long we've been waiting to see Mysterio in a SPIDER-MAN movie? Literally forever. Get hyped.

But SPIDER-MAN wasn't all we had on our minds this week. We also learned that Taika Waititi's working on an animated FLASH GORDON movie, saw the first trailer for the new CHARLIE'S ANGELS, officially launched our board game coverage (starting with a people VS. dinosaur game called RAPTOR), and got a look at the first behind-the-scenes footage from Cary Fukanaga's (as yet untitled) BOND 25.

Pretty good week, all in all, and now it's time for the weekend. We'll be at the pool or inside a movie theater until Monday. What've y'all got going on? Anything fun?

Well. This was quite a week, wasn't it?

We found out Andy Serkis might be directing the sequel to VENOM (sure, that seems like a good idea). We spoke with Mike Moh, who plays Bruce Lee in Quentin Tarantino's ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD (you really wanna read this interview). The first trailer for Robert Eggers' THE LIGHTHOUSE showed up and completely derailed our productivity for about two hours. Oh, and then we found out Stephen King is writing an all-new final chapter for Josh Boone's THE STAND series.

It's beginning to look a lot like Halloween...

Technically speaking, summer ain't over yet, but it's already starting to feel like Halloween, isn't it? Amazon's working on an EVENT HORIZON TV series, David Fincher's MINDHUNTER returns in a matter of days, IT: CHAPTER TWO will be along before we know it, and this weekend Andr� �vredal's excellent SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK lands in theaters. If you're into spooky stuff, this week was overflowing with good news.

The Calm Before The SDCC Storm

It's the final week before this year's SDCC, which means things are quiet. A bit too quiet, if you ask us (not that quiet is disturbing, mind you; we're just bored).

The good news is, we kept things lively over at BIRTH.MOVIES.DEATH., extrapolating our feelings on last week's big releases (MIDSOMMAR, SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME), looking back at some old faves, and taking the time to watch a movie with Willie Nelson out under the Texas stars. This was all a very welcome respite, and we are thankful the Entertainment News Gods went easy on us this week.
