Let''s #stayconnected No images? Click here This week we are celebrating the 75th Anniversary of VE Day - when victory in Europe was declared on 8th May, 1945. We had big plans to celebrate this weekend, and although we can''t welcome you to an event, we have pulled together stories, videos and photographs online to commemorate WWII and celebrate our ''Greatest Briton'' Sir Winston Churchill, who was born in the Palace in 1874. Explore the dedicated page on our website >> We''ve also been busy finding more inspiration and ideas from our partners and friends, so you can celebrate at home this weekend. Make some bunting, get baking classic recipes, or even try a 1940s make up look! Blenheim''s WWII History A little-known story about our Great Lake is that it was used to test amphibious vehicles in preparation for the D-Day landings in June 1944. A collection of photographs reveal what we know about this top-secret operation.
Take a look
On our dedicated VE Day web page you''ll also find a video of three MI5 agents, stationed at the Palace from 1940, reflecting on their time here and their contribution to the Intelligence Service. One of the ladies says "If the Germans had known we had lost every possible record of their spies... we would have lost the War."
Meet the Ladies of MI5
Aunt to His Grace, the 12th Duke of Marlborough, Lady Rosemary Muir was recently featured in a YouTube series ''WW2 I Was There''. In this fascinating video, Lady Rosemary shares her experience living in Blenheim Palace before, during and after the war.

“My dear friends, this is your hour. This is not victory of a party or of any class. It’s a victory of the Great British nation as a whole."Sir Winston Churchill on VE Day, 1945 Celebrate VE Day at Home The BBC has published an itinerary for Friday, 8th May and shows us how the nation have been celebrating already. Take a look >> Online education provider PlanBee have released a free VE Day activity pack, including make-your-own bunting, a wartime wordsearch and a Morse Code challenge. And, for those who love to colour, Colouring Heroes have put together a series of templates.

Our friends at English Heritage have pulled together a huge number of resources, stories and photographs to commemorate VE Day. They''ve also produced a guide to celebrating VE Day at home that includes sing-a-long lyrics to popular wartime songs, and step-by-step dance moves for the Lindy Hop Swing.

English Heritage have also created a make up tutorial based on first-hand accounts from the Wrens of Dover Castle, who were instrumental in the War effort. The tutorial includes original products and make-do-and-mend make up tips.

While our teams wait to start the project, they''ll continue researching and planning, to make sure it''s an even bigger success than we''d originally hoped. No images? Click here Important Notice From Our Chief Executive Dear friends, I hope that you have all remained safe. I shared with you last week our outline plans and expectations around opening [click here if you did not receive it]. Until we can reopen properly, Blenheim Park is really only open for our local communities – and keeping the Park open for them is very important to us and them. I appreciate that we have a Bank Holiday weekend coming up, and we would normally be saying to you “come to Blenheim Palace and Woodstock, we’d love to see you”. But today I want to tell you something a bit different. With current health risks and fears, when large numbers of you come from further away to visit the Park, you bring those risks and fears to our communities, families and friends. Blenheim is threaded right through these communities and their wellbeing and safety really matters to us - and so does yours. Our car parks are still not able to open, which means visitors from further away must park in Woodstock or elsewhere. There is very limited parking in those places and the constant risk of parking enforcement. I should also flag that there are no toilets open anywhere near us and very little else is open. If the Park gets too busy, we will have to close entrances to protect those already inside. We expect to be able to open more facilities shortly for you; we expect health risks to diminish and this advice applies very specifically to this very sunny Bank Holiday Weekend, a time when we all tend to come out which significantly heightens the risks. We want to keep our friends, neighbours and families safe and we want you to stay safe too. Soon, we will all welcome you with open arms but this Bank Holiday Weekend (and I cannot quite believe I am writing this) we ask you to stay away. Stay safe. With kind regards, Dominic Hare Chief Executive, Blenheim You received this email because you are or have been a Blenheim Palace Annual Pass holder, or you subscribed to our newsletter or mailing list. We''d love to hear your story - submit it online for a chance to feature in our next newsletter. The images below were sent to us by Suzi Harrison whose father worked at Blenheim in the 1960s. “This is my Dad, Bill Brown''s memory. Back in 1966 he was asked to re-carve the Grinling Gibbons trophy that stands on the roof top as you enter the great courtyard. He was 31 at the time and it was his first ''big job''. It had to be an exact copy of the Knight in Armour with arms, pikes, choppers, muskets, flags and canons. You can see in the picture the one he was copying on the floor. The whole thing was done in about eight pieces, weighed a few tonnes and took about six months to complete. Dad did a fare bit of restoration work on the palace, but this particular piece was featured in the London Times which we still have a copy of and is the piece we are most proud of and always cast a glance at it when we are walking by. He carved the plaques in Diana’s Temple where Churchill proposed, as well as the great man’s headstone." Blenheim Palace

Spring at Britain''s Greatest Palace
No images? Click here Coronavirus (Covid-19) Update A message from our Chief ExecutiveSpring has arrived at this beautiful place and, as always, Blenheim Palace does not disappoint with the trees coming into bloom and of course England’s finest view looking as resplendent as ever. However, this Spring is somewhat different with the Coronavirus (Covid-19) taking hold in the UK... We have taken the very difficult decision to close the Palace, Formal Gardens and Pleasure Gardens as from Monday 23rd March until further notice; while laws and Government advice allow, Blenheim Park will remain open from 10.00 - 16.00 each day for you to enjoy. Our shop, cafés and all toilet facilities will be closed at this time. This will be free for everyone to enjoy; with everything that is happening in the world right now, we want to try and ensure that we give people a place where they can come, be surrounded by nature and a beautiful landscape and feel connected - whilst we are socially distancing ourselves. That last bit is important; while you are here, please respect people’s social distance and share smiles and kind words only... and please share those a lot. Our teams have been working hard to put into place procedures to minimise any risks, we have issued our guidelines on our website. We also ask that you help us to ensure that we can stay open and limit any risks by not coming if you have signs of any illness or should be in isolation - please come another day. This year we are celebrating being open to Visitors for 70 years, and we want to make sure that we continue to be a safe environment for families to come and visit and, although these are very difficult times, they will become part of our shared history. We will be regularly posting on social media sites stories from Blenheim Palace, its past, present and future so please do stay in touch with us at this time using hashtags #stayconnected / #blenheimpalace. Please see our website for all our event information, we will be issuing refunds for any that are Blenheim Palace ticketed, and you will be directed to third party event partners through our event pages, for additional information. I want to personally assure you that we have made these decisions with the interests of our visitors and staff at the heart of them. On behalf of myself and the team at Blenheim Palace I wish you safe health. Take care of yourselves – we don’t care if you never spend money with us again, we just want to know that you and your loved ones are safe. With kind regards, Dominic Hare Chief Executive, Blenheim Please follow the link below for the latest updates...

Our Herdsman Richard took this fantastic shot of our yearling cattle grazing the water meadows out in the Park this week.
