BOPSS Annual Meeting 2020
24th - 26th June 2020, Oxford
Keble College, Oxford.
Dear Jack,
The organising committee is delighted to invite you to Oxford for the BOPSS 2020 annual scientific meeting. The meeting will be held from 24th - 26th June at Keble College located in the heart of the city.
We are delighted to welcome our two keynote speakers: Prof Dinesh Selva, Foundation Chair of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences at the University of Adelaide and Dr David Jordan, Professor of Ophthalmic Plastic, Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Ottawa Eye Institute.
On Wednesday 24th June we have organised an update day and are fortunate to welcome both UK and international experts to cover eyelid, lacrimal and orbit topics. We are delighted that Mr. James Partridge OBE founder of Changing Faces has agreed to lead a session on facial disfigurement. James is recognised as a charismatic speaker and influential advocate who has taken part in many events on disfigurement, disability, inclusion and social entrepreneurship both in the UK and internationally. For the main meeting programme on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th there will symposia on thyroid eye disease, medicol-legal, orbit/oncology, aesthetics as well as debates and free papers.
We are delighted to offer a number of innovations at BOPSS this year including a paperless “tricky cases” session for consultants running concurrently with a trainee quiz session; we’re also throwing in free a pre-registration breakfast for all delegates in the great Victorian dining hall at Keble, the longest hall in Oxford!
We have arranged a welcoming and hospitable social programme over the course of the meeting. Oxford is one of England's most cycle friendly cities and cycling is a marvellous way to explore the stunning Oxfordshire countryside and views of the Chilterns an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. On Tuesday, we have organised a 75 km bicycle ride –

Please email BOPSS2020@gmail.com to register your interest (before 14th February if possible). There is a fee to cover bicycle hire and delegates need to pay their own lunch at a local pub. On the Tuesday evening there will be punting on the Thames from Cherwell Boathouse (from 5.30 pm book your own). On Wednesday from 5.15 pm there will be a free welcome drinks reception for all delegates and guests at the University’s Natural History Museum (directly across the road from Keble College). On Thursday we have organised a black tie dinner at the Divinity School and historic Convocation House, a meeting chamber for the House of Commons during the English Civil War, located in the Bodleian Libraries complex. Please note that gala dinner tickets are limited so early booking to avoid disappointment is advised.
Important information regarding accommodation at Keble; unfortunately Oxford University has pushed some of its examinations into the student holidays and consequently it cannot offer any more accommodation in the halls of residence until later in the year (end of April). The University accommodation is single room accommodation only not suitable for sharing. Once accommodation is released back on sale we will send out a notification to registered delegates. We suggest and strongly recommend therefore that you provisionally secure accommodation elsewhere.
Abstract Submission is open and closes on 13th March 2020. Please encourage your trainees and fellows to submit their abstracts https://www.bopss.co.uk/meetings/bopss-2020-oxford/abstract-submission/
Early bird registration is open, so why not take advantage of the reduced rates if you book before 01st May 2020? For members, reduced meeting rates appear once you have logged into your account on the BOPSS site. Please ensure that your membership subscription is up to date before proceeding to purchase meeting tickets.
We hope you can join us in Oxford for what we expect to be a memorable, unique and very educational few days.
Yours sincerely
Jonathan Norris, Tristan McMullan & Manoj Parulekar
