BORE PLACE DROP OFF HOLIDAY CLUBS THIS SUMMER 

We are so pleased to be able to welcome children back to Bore Place this summer for our drop-off children''s activity days. The outdoors is the perfect place for a Covid-safe holiday club and all our activities have been adapted to run within the government''s Covid-19 guidelines.

All activities run from 9am-4pm and cost £40 for the day.

As a member of our Bore Place network of partners and supporters, we are contacting you to wish you well during these challenging and unprecedented times.

In addition, we are asking you to consider supporting Bore Place and the work of the Commonwork Trust to help in safeguarding our future. This message provides further information on our current situation and sets out some possible ways in which you could support us.

Like so many organisations, we are facing an enormous financial challenge due to the COVID-19 emergency. We depend on our events and visitors to pay our staff, maintain the site and to deliver our charitable projects. In the current climate, our main sources of income have all but disappeared overnight. This severe impact on our cash flow means we need to do all we can to secure our future. 

We are a not-for-profit organisation, with all income we generate being re-invested in programmes for disadvantaged young people and children, our outdoor learning programmes and in maintaining the beautiful historic Bore Place site for our visitors to enjoy and benefit from. Over the years, hundreds of thousands of visitors and guests have experienced the benefits of spending time in our unique therapeutic environment, to connect with nature and to explore and see first-hand our model for sustainable living. 

We appreciate that so many of you are faced with financial uncertainty and no doubt numerous requests for charitable donations at this time. For the many thousands of you who may have stayed at Bore Place, attended one of our events or courses, been married here, enjoyed the Bore Place walks, or benefited from one of our charitable programmes – we would be hugely grateful if you could consider making a donation if you are able (however small).

Of course, you can also support us by:

·  Making a booking to come and stay with us in the future

·  Booking a school visit or a place on a future course or event

·  Not asking for a refund for an event that is having to be cancelled

Bore Place is open and hosting school visits

Bore Place is open and operating within government guidance to provide primary and secondary school visits in a Covid-secure environment. 

Get out of the classroom and come and explore our 500-acre estate and see the seasons changing. The majority of school activities will happen outside, taking advantage of our farm, forests, organic market garden (which is full of produce at this time of year) and fields.

We are now holders of the the LOtC Quality Badge for learning outside the classroom.

Give pupils the change to connect with nature and feel the benefits of learning outside. We offer a wide range of tutor-led activities for primary and secondary schools that enhance learning in a range of curriculum areas, including science, geography, history, design and technology, and art and design.

A day at Bore Place makes an excellent alternative to overnight residentials and is a fantastic way that children can reconnect after so long out of the classroom or to establish new friendships in new school settings.

If you have yet to finalise your plans for Christmas this year and are looking for somewhere to take advantage of the relaxed guidelines for the holiday period, Bore Place House is available, after a late cancellation. It is obviously a wonderful place to spend Christmas - with plenty of room for social distancing!

2020 has certainly been a challenging year for us, as it has for so many. We are looking forward to the new year and hopefully some easier times ahead. It is great, however, to be able to share with you some positive developments that we have been to achieve during this period. 

Thanks to funding from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, we have a brand new sustainable play area just next to the car park. This has already been a fantastic asset to education groups, as well as walkers and visitors. For walkers, there are also two other play areas situated around our grounds which can be enjoyed by children on the Bore Place Walks. A great incentive! 

We now also have an improved and bigger car park as well as public toilets and showers. Soon to be installed is a cycle repair facility which we hope will encourage people to use the cycle routes available. 

Blackwoods Cheese Company Farm Shop at Bore Place

If you need another incentive to visit Bore Place, Blackwoods Cheese Company who make cheese on-site, are running a pop-up farm shop here every Saturday between 9am & 2pm. Selling delicious, award-winning cheese made with milk from the Bore Place herd as well as wine, bread, vegetables and other tasty treats it is well worth a visit. 

Education at Bore Place

Our education team has continued to be busy and we have enjoyed working with many of our regular SEND groups, as well as hosting other schools.

We have developed a new programme aimed specifically at Year 7 children designed to ease the transition to secondary school by encouraging new starters to bond, boost their confidence and help them to feel settled in their new environments. The programme features team building, bushcraft, woodwork and environmental arts and has been so successful we are adapting it to suit Year 8s as well. Do get in touch if you know a school who would be in interested. 

Looking ahead to the new year and more relaxed times, we are expanding our events and workshops in 2021/22 and are interested to hear from likeminded people who share the Bore Place ethos of connecting people with nature through wholesome, inspirational talks and activities. Perhaps you’re a yoga or pilates teacher? An expert in sourdough? A friendly forager? A masseuse? A wildlife expert? Or perhaps you know someone who is…

BORE PLACE IS RECRUITING

Front of House and Marketing Assistant

Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £20,000 pa

We are looking for a dynamic, self-starter to come and join us at Bore Place. As our Front of House and Marketing Assistant you will be a key part of our team.

As the ‘face’ of the organisation you will be well presented, have impeccable people and communication skills, a can-do attitude and a friendly and efficient manner. A skilled administrator with an excellent eye for detail, you will be adept at multitasking with solid experience using Microsoft packages (Excel, Outlook and Word). Assisting several members of the Bore Place team, you will be able to manage your time well and prioritise your workload. You will also play a key part in developing the marketing reach of Bore Place. A background in, or some knowledge of, basic design, social media management and copywriting would be useful.

Environmental Education and Engagement Internship (12 months) 

Hours: 40 hours per week
Salary: £9,675 pa plus accommodation

Are you an enthusiastic and motivated person looking to take your first steps into environmental education?

We are offering a 12-month internship funded by the Ernest Cook Trust to an individual with a passion for environmental issues and inspiring others. We are looking for someone starting their career with a commitment to achieving sustainable development in practice. You will need a relevant degree, a good work ethic, a positive attitude and excellent communication skills.

Your primary role will be supporting our education team, researching and creating programmes of engaging events for a wide range of visitors. As part of this, you will provide hands-on delivery to visiting groups and help to look after the education garden.

In return for your commitment, we will provide a bespoke development programme designed to meet your career interests, to ensure that at the end of your time with us, you will be set up for the next step in your career. As part of this, you will spend time with our Director learning the inside workings of our organisation.
