The health and safety of our staff, audiences, and artists is of the utmost importance to us at the Huntington, and we are closely monitoring the evolving coronavirus/COVID-19 situation. Following the guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health we are taking the following precautions for your health and comfort:

• We have increased all janitorial services, including the frequency and level of cleaning of the public spaces in our theatres

• All seats and armrests are being disinfected before and after every performance

• Hand sanitizer dispensers and disinfecting wipes have been placed throughout our venues

• We recommend that anyone not feeling well stay at home. If someone in the theatre is presenting symptoms, they will be respectfully asked to leave the premises.  
  

• We encourage all patrons, as well as our own staff and artists, to take the standard precautions, including frequent and thorough handwashing to prevent the spread of any flu-like illness. Additional information on prevention measures can be found on the CDC website here.
  

• Signs regarding proper hygiene practices have been placed in all restrooms

• In keeping with our commitment to customer service and our flexible exchange policies, we are happy to work with any patrons who cannot attend or feel uncomfortable attending their designated performance. We will waive any associated exchange fees with re-seating into another performance, or we will endeavor to exchange them into another production.  
  

At this time, all Huntington Theatre Company events, including performances at the Huntington Avenue Theatre and Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA, are proceeding as scheduled. We continue to monitor the situation closely and will post up-to-date information on our website and social media channels should our plans change.

Peter DuBois has informed us of his resignation from his position as Norma Jean Calderwood Artistic Director of the Huntington Theatre Company. He has served the Huntington for 12 years and created many wonderful productions during his tenure.?

Over the course of the coming weeks, the Board of Trustees will embark on a process designed to inform the search for a new artistic director. As we are an evolving theatre company, so too is the role of the artistic director. The Board of Trustees will be developing an updated description of the responsibilities required of our next artistic leader and will then begin the search for the next person to fulfill that role. We are committed to listening to the voices within the Huntington family to ensure that we have the guidance needed as we conduct a formal search. We are confident that we can move forward with the same dedication to excellent artist achievement during this transition and beyond.

We are fortunate to have both a talented staff within the artistic department and an engaged Board of Trustees. With our efforts combined, we will continue the fine work for which the Huntington Theatre Company has become recognized both locally and nationally.

This announcement comes at a time where the myriad challenges around the pandemic have illuminated concerns about the theatre's workplace environment and issues of structural imbalance. We are taking the time during this period where we are unable to produce theatre to reflect on how to improve our organization, open the lines of communication, including greater dialogue with our BIPOC staff and artists, and become a more equitable institution. We have a lot of work to do in this area, but it is a high priority for our organization.

We deeply appreciate the commitment exhibited by the Huntington staff during this difficult time and are grateful for both their candor and their love for the Huntington. We recognize the Board's obligation to honor and serve, not just our audiences, but the people who work for us and with us. Looking forward, we are confident that we have the?board leadership, organizational leadership, and staff in place to truly make the Huntington's reemergence the beginning of a new era in Boston theatre.

Superstar Student Spotlight

Huntington @ HomeSchool is accepting video submissions of performances, designs, and other artistic talents in order to celebrate anyone who was not able to share their work due to the closures of school, theatre programs, and community centers. Anyone can submit, students or adults. We want to see and share your work!

After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to postpone our 20-21 season, and we will therefore not be producing any shows on our stages through December of this year. The simple truth is that we must put the health and safety of Huntington artists, staff, and audiences first, and with so much uncertainty, we do not know when it will be safe to gather once again. We will continue to follow guidelines from the city and state as we move forward.

Although it won't be on the original timetable or in the original sequence previously announced, we intend to bring both the canceled shows from the 19-20 season (Our Daughters, Like Pillars and The Bluest Eye) as well as the shows announced for our 20-21 season to life moving forward, potentially beginning as early as next spring. We look forward to sharing developments on that front with you as soon as we can.

We create theatre because it has the power to instill empathy, excite the imagination, and create change. We miss our community so much and we look forward to connecting with you in new ways over the coming months until we can gather again in the theatre.

After much careful consideration regarding the coronavirus pandemic, the Huntington Theatre Company is suspending all public performances and events at both the Huntington Avenue Theatre and Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA.

Ticketing staff will be reaching out to ticket holders of Our Daughters, Like Pillars, originally scheduled from March 20 to April 19. We hope to create a digital recording of this play to be made available to ticketed patrons at a later date. Our Daughters, Like Pillars ticket holders also have the option of donating their tickets, exchanging them into a future Huntington production, or receiving a refund.  

We are committed to the health and safety of our audiences, artists, staff, and presenters, and feel that taking this proactive measure is the most responsible thing to do based on recommendations from the CDC.

In keeping with our commitment to customer service and our flexible exchange policies, we are happy to work with any patrons who feel uncomfortable attending their designated performance when our venues reopen.
