Registration for the BSR Conference 2020, taking place live October 20-23, is open.

This year, we will convene our community at a moment of tremendous uncertainty and turbulence, and driven by a common task: to find solutions to the problems of the present, while laying the groundwork to build a truly equitable, resilient and just future for all.

BSR20 will build on the growing momentum our members and partners have achieved together over the last decade, while delving deep into the considerable work ahead of us.

Our theme this year is "Meet the Moment. Build the Future." As we come together for three days of substantive and actionable discussions, we are all dealing with the urgent need to address the unprecedented economic and public health challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic; and the tragic reminder of the systemic barriers and racial injustice that still plague society.

Business has taken many encouraging steps to bolster public health, to enable immediate relief for people who have lost jobs since the pandemic hit, and to address the need for truly diverse and inclusive workplaces and equitable economic opportunity. It is also essential that we stay focused on delivering on long-term goals to transition to net-zero carbon and achieve the SDGs. Our agenda will highlight how companies have shifted into high gear; and what we must do to ensure these efforts are strengthened and taken to scale.?

While we would much prefer to gather in person, we are excited to shift to a digital, virtual experience that will connect our global community, bring new voices to the fore, and facilitate new partnerships and initiatives.

Our virtual event gives us the added benefit of convening a truly global conversation, spanning multiple time zones and regions, and delivered via broadcast-quality streaming video, which will be recorded and available on demand to registered participants for a full year. Plenaries, breakout sessions, and networking events will take place in small blocks of time per day by region, allowing you to tune in live without missing an entire day of work.

First off, we hope that you and your families and communities, wherever you are in the world, are continuing to stay safe and healthy, and applying the values that underlie our collective work on sustainability to see us through this challenging time.

Over the past several weeks, the concept of "resilience" has gone from an overlooked buzzword to an urgent objective. In the wake of this pandemic, we are calling for business to "meet the moment and build the future" by building resilient business strategies, which will be fundamentally important to business success as well as economic and social recovery.

In due course, we will need to turn our attention to modernizing our social contract for the 21st century-a social contract that allows the economy to thrive by enabling everyone to participate in, and benefit from, economic activity. We will be talking more about this over the coming months, so stay tuned. A few weeks ago, we launched a new report on the role of business in modernizing the social contract. Our report focuses on the powerful case to align business purpose with essential societal needs, such as the transition to a net-zero economy; a digital economy that sustains jobs and livelihoods and achieves economic fairness; and the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion. A truly modern social contract will strengthen business resilience and enable companies to innovate and thrive.

We will be publishing a series of insights on the five principles outlined in the report over the coming months-the first of which on worker data protection is below-and will continue this conversation at the virtual BSR Conference 2020, our annual gathering of global leaders from Fortune 500 companies, civil society, government, and academia.

We're also excited to announce the launch of Transform to Net Zero, a cross-sector initiative to accelerate the transition to a net-zero global economy. The new effort aims to deliver guidance and business plans to enable a transformation to net-zero emissions, as well as research, advocacy, and best practices to make it easier for the private sector to not only set ambitious goals-but also deliver meaningful emissions reductions and economic success.
