"Black history is bigger than one month" – Deji Oshilaja addresses CACT participants on Zoom
As part of Charlton Athletic Community Trust''s Black History Month celebrations in October, Charlton Athletic defender Deji Oshilaja joined Olympian Daryll Neita in addressing young people from CACT''s Premier League Primary Stars programme.

Deji, Daryll & Mayor of Greenwich Cllr Linda Bird joined a Zoom call to answer questions from Primary Stars pupils from Hawksmoor School.

Daryll said:

"I was born and raised here, I''m British. And it''s about being effortlessly proud of that and not explaining yourself to anybody, just being you. I feel like we can all take a lesson from that."

Speaking to CACT, Deji said:

"I believe, first of all, Black history is bigger than one month. It''s stuff that should be taught throughout a whole year and it should not just be highlighted because October is the month that people want to talk about it."

CACT also interviewed a range of staff & trustees about what the month means to them.
"He came home buzzing and said how much he enjoyed it"
After impressing coaches at CACT''s Advanced Centre, eight-year-old Roman Douglas-Boast has been given an opportunity with Charlton Athletic''s academy.

Roman was initially anxious about CACT''s Advanced Centre, but quickly settled into the six-week programme.

Roman''s father said:

"After his first session in the Advanced Centre he came home buzzing and said how much he enjoyed it."

Annual Report highlights busy year as CACT Awards showcased
CACT has published its 2019-20 Annual Report, showing it worked with 46,778 people and had expenditure of over £5.8 million on charitable activities.

The Annual Report was published a day after the CACT Awards, held virtually, celebrating the achievements of staff, participants & partners over the last year.

Hosted by CACT Ambassador Dave Berry, it saw the Community Hub win three of the five awards up for grabs.

Jason Morgan, CACT''s Chief Executive, said:

"I am immensely proud of everyone at CACT for the work delivered over the past year. It was great to showcase some of our highlights in the CACT Awards."

George Lapslie joins World Mental Health Day discussion
As part of World Mental Health Day 2020, Charlton Athletic midfielder George Lapslie interviewed CACT Early Intervention in Psychosis participant Mahala Debnam.

Mahala opened up about her experiences of psychosis, and they also discussed mental health issues within football.

Mahala said: "Without the CACT programme, I wouldn''t be where I am today with my mental health recovery."

ITRM extends partnership
ITRM, a privately-owned IT company based in Sidcup, has renewed its partnership with CACT and the Club.

ITRM is CACT''s Principal Partner, and the partnership will see the ITRM logo on the front of all kit worn by CACT staff & affiliated teams such as the Upbeats.

Dave White, ITRM''s Managing Director, said: "Our staff fully embrace our role within both organisations, whether that be to help with an IT support issue as the Club and CACT’s IT Partner, or to spend the day helping on one of CACT’s fantastic community projects."
