More than just a week away from home, summer camp at Camp Southern Ground is a chance for kids to grow and learn. Founded on the premise that our differences unite us, Camp Southern Ground was built from the ground up to be fully inclusive. Our summer camp brings together typically developing children; children with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), learning and attention issues, social or emotional challenges; underserved youth; and kids from military families with particular focus on Gold, Silver, and White Star families.*

It is with a heavy heart that I share we have made the decision to cancel summer camp for the 2020 season. After careful consideration by our camp director and board of directors, and with guidance from the CDC and local and federal health authorities, we ultimately felt we could not provide the experience our families have come to expect, while meeting government guidelines to ensure camper, staff, and community safety. It is a risk we simply cannot take.
While this is the right decision, it is nonetheless a disappointing and emotional one. Our camp families have been patient, positive, hopeful and inspiring throughout this process, and we appreciate the support you have shown.
We are committed to keeping kids growing, learning and active, even when they can't be at camp. To this end, our camp team will continue to share fun and educational resources online and host virtual camp classes available at CSGatHome.org. We hope to see you there!
Camp families have the option to receive a full tuition refund, roll tuition to next year, or donate the funds to support our mission. Our community has been extraordinarily generous through these uncertain times, which is testament to how important Camp Southern Ground is to so many. We are thankful and honored.

Veteran Programs are in Full Swing
Last Sunday, we kicked off our third Warrior PATHH since re-opening our doors in August. In a year where isolation is impacting so many, we are privileged to serve our veterans with critical programming. With a focus on post-traumatic growth, Warrior PATHH (Progressive Alternative Training for Healing Heroes) helps post-9/11 combat veterans with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and/or combat stress. Delivered in partnership with Boulder Crest Foundation, this 18-month provides training to help veterans regain the capacity to regulate their thoughts, feelings, and actions.
Both Warrior PATHH and Warrior Week start with a high-touch week at Camp Southern Ground and both are offered at no cost to participants. Retreat to Camp Southern Ground
Looking for a special spot for your next event? Our award-winning, LEED Gold certified Residential Lodge can accommodate groups of up to 16 in private rooms for overnight leadership or planning retreats. For bigger groups, we can keep it outdoors under our Shade Pavilion, on our walking trails, around our fire pit, or across 400 acres of beautifully maintained grounds. We also offer some amazing outside team building activities, including a 1,200-foot zip line, two ropes courses, archery, and axe-throwing. Whatever it is, we'll work to make it special. Thirteen years ago, I founded Camp Southern Ground because I, myself, am a product of camp. That''s where I gained the courage to be myself. All kids are unique and should feel confidence in who they are. That''s hard if they have to spend time thinking about where their next meal is coming from.
Last Friday, I set a goal to help Camp Southern Ground raise 10,000 meals. Everyone''s support has been so awesome that we''re lifting the goal so that even more kids in underserved communities have meals and resources this summer. Let''s reach 15,000 meals by midnight tonight.
It''s been a tough couple of months. Maybe the hardest of my life, but I know we won''t forget or regret the actions we take right now to help our kids.
You all know I love to spread music and love. When kids in our own country are facing hunger on top of this current crisis, love is the remedy.

Our military commitment has always been to honor the service and sacrifice of our nation's veterans with a network and resources to increase their total wellbeing. Summer Camp
Honoring the Warriors who serve is a fundamental part of our mission, and we work hard to instill a sense of patriotism in the children who attend summer camp with activities that help teach them love of country. As part of our inclusive model, we also support those who have served our country by offering a summer camp experience to children from military and veteran families, including kids coping with the deployment of a parent, or those who have lost a loved one in service to our country. We are so excited to announce that our veteran programs are back in session! After postponing our programs in March, our veteran team pivoted to serving veterans virtually and remotely. While social channels continue to be a place for both new veterans and Camp Southern Ground alumni to receive and give support, our on-site programs, Warrior Week and Warrior PATHH, are running monthly and are open to veterans across the nation.

Project Remedy
Over the summer, Chef Collins and his team produced and packaged 15,000 meals as part of Project Remedy, our Giving Tuesday Now feeding initiative. These meals, along with produce boxes from our organic farm, were delivered to the children and families most in need through our partnership with Purpose Built Schools and Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, two organizations who make a true difference in our community. Thank you to everyone who gave to help us close the unprecedented food gap brought on by COVID-19 and support our mission to serve children and veterans!
Growing Goodness Doesn''t Only Happen at Camp
This summer, while different, was one of connection and growth. After we made the difficult decision to cancel summer camp, our camp team moved their expertise online to keep kids active and growing every day. We''re thrilled to share that more than 800 campers tuned in to over 60 classes, from art and music to leadership and literacy to wellness and nutrition!
We are so appreciative of our awesome camp families and supporters for jumping right in and helping us make the most of this crazy time. This event is free and donations support Camp Southern Ground's Warrior programs to care for the mental health and wellbeing of veterans. With social isolation as a leading risk factor for suicide, there has a never been a more important time to honor our nation''s heroes with your support for their mental health. Camp Southern Ground is founded on the concept of community, and the premise that we are stronger when we come together. In the midst of a pandemic when people may be feeling isolated, anxious, and depressed, we know that coming together and supporting one another is more important than ever. In that spirit, our veteran and summer camp teams are working hard to stay connected to and provide support to our communities.
Our summer camp team is sharing daily resources about something we know how to do pretty well - keep kids organized, learning, and active. We are also taking proactive steps to ensure a safe camp experience, including new check-in procedures and heightened cleaning and sanitizing processes. As it stands, we plan to host summer camp as scheduled and will continue to evaluate this decision with guidance from federal and local health officials.
On the veteran front, while we have suspended on-site programming through April, we are dedicated to promoting resiliency, mental health and well-being within our Warrior community. Our veteran team has reached out to every Warrior alumni to personally check on them, and is sharing interactive well-being strategies daily on our Warrior social community. We are also working to quickly adapt facilty-based programming to an online environment so we may continue to provide critical programs during this time of need.

Loneliness and social isolation increases the risk of mental health issues like depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and suicide. While this season of isolation has been tough on everyone, it has hit veterans especially hard. The United States has already lost more warriors following 9/11 to suicide at home than we have lost on the battlefield. Amidst this long season of social distancing, veterans need our support more than ever.
