The Center for Rural Development receives ARC funding for Coal Impacted Skills Training program
The Center for Rural Development has been awarded $300,000 in Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) funding for the Coal Impacted Skills Training (CIST) program.
CIST will provide training opportunities for displaced, unemployed, and underemployed individuals in 35 Kentucky counties impacted by the decline of the coal industry and COVID-19.
Training opportunities will include essential work skills; help desk customer service; and specialized workforce training, like allied health, commercial trucking, and additive manufacturing.
The program is expected to train 260 workers and provide a more ready workforce in growing communities in Southern and Eastern Kentucky.
Who is eligible to apply?
Displaced, unemployed, and underemployed individuals who live in one of the grant service counties within The Center''s primary service region and identified by ARC as a distressed county are eligible to apply.
The goal is to provide a training package that will lead individuals to find gainful employment or upgrade the skill sets of employees in coal-impacted areas.
Eligible Kentucky counties include:
Adair, Bath, Bell, Breathitt, Carter, Casey, Clay, Clinton, Elliott, Estill, Floyd, Harlan, Jackson, Johnson, Knott, Knox, Lawrence, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Lincoln, Magoffin, Martin, McCreary, Menifee, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Pike, Rockcastle, Rowan, Russell, Wayne, Whitley, and Wolfe
