TRACK 100 LINE UP

We are absolutely delighted to welcome two new entrants to our 2020 Track 100 mile event.

Zach Bitter the World 100 mile record holder after his 11:19 run in Milwaukee last autumn, will be joining us and looking to better his world best mark.

Aleksandr Sorokin is the World 24hr Mens Champion from 2019 and will be looking to run substantially quicker than his 12:32 100 mile best which was run as a split on route to one of his lower (!!) 24hr performances. 

Alongside those two we are looking to add further international athletes to an already stellar field which includes 5 of the current Team GB 24hr athletes and 2 Norwegian internationals amongst others.

Entry to watch the race take place at The Julie Rose Stadium in Ashford (home of our NDW100 finish line) is free, all are welcome so please do come and join us for what is surely one of the most competitive 100 mile fields ever assembled.

NATIONAL RUNNING SHOW

The National Running Show is happening in Birmingham over the weekend of 25th-26th January 2020.

We will be there with a stand and our race director James Elson will be part of two talks happening in the Ultra Zone which is a new feature for this year, with many brilliant speakers lined up including Lazarus Lake/ Gary Cantrell the RD for the Barkley Marathons (who joins James on stage on Saturday afternoon) amongst others.

Hello everybody and welcome to the November 2020 Newsletter. 

Our 2020 season was brought to a full stop on Saturday evening as the announcement came through that England would be entering another period of National Lockdown. One that starts this Thursday, just two days prior to this years postponed SDW100 and ends three days after this years postponed NDW50. With the Wendover Woods 50 and 50km falling in between. 

Absolutely heartbreaking news for all of the runners that had invested so much into making these re-arranged events. Some of them less than a week out from completing the Grand Slam of 100s in a massively compressed time frame. Some of them having already suffered numerous postponements.

Everyone has now been informed and runners given options. Deferring to 2021 or 2022, cancelling or transferring to other events, depending on which race they were entered for. We have tried our very best to do the right thing and give everyone good options.  Our RD James Elson recorded this video on Sunday just reflecting on the situation. 

Thank you. To all of our volunteers who came out and made what we had of our season, possible. To the runners who stuck with us and trusted in us to deliver safe events. To the community at large for the support. 

We immediately felt we wanted to end the season on a positive note, not a negative. We wanted the runners who have lost their goal races to have the option to put their training towards something else. We wanted to try to continue to support charities that are helping those who are affected most by this ongoing pandemic. After the success of the One Community Event in May, we immediately decided to bring it back for this lockdown. So One Community II takes place between 23rd November and 29th November, with some additional add ons to consider. Full details on this are below, together with a run through of the status of each of our 2021 events.

ONE COMMUNITY II

The ongoing pandemic has created so many challenges for so many people and the second national lockdown here in England put an abrupt end to our race season, with four events still left to run.

The first One Community event that took place in May was a massive success and a huge amount of positivity was generated. We want to end the year on a positive note and give everybody, especially those who had their races cancelled, a chance to end it with something great.

This second One Community event will run from the 23rd - 29th November 2020 with the same overall format as our May 2020 event with one or two additions along the way.

Here are the results and the report from the first edition so you can get a feel for what it is all about.

What is It 

Centurion Running One Community is a virtual event which takes place over 7 days, starting at 0001 GMT on Monday 23rd November and ending at 2359 GMT on Sunday 29th November 2020. The event is for everybody, anywhere in the world, of any age. 

You can select any of the target distances you wish from the below, and run that distance in one go, or cumulatively, over the course of the week.

You will be able to submit results in any format. You will enter the time and day on which you started your first run, and then the finish time of your final run. If you do the distance in one go, then the start and finish time of that one run. The system will then calculate your overall time.

• 5km
• 10km
• Half Marathon
• Marathon
• 50km
• 50 mile
• 100 mile (18 and over only)

The results will show in order of cumulative time, and by category. Categories include gender and age groups. However the primary objective is to complete the challenge you set for yourself and to engage with your friends, family and the Centurion Community by sharing your journey along the way. Age Categories are available all the way from Under 5''s to Vet 90 (aside from the 100 mile where categories will be senior and up only)

What do You Get?

• Personal Bib Number - downloadable at the start of race week by clicking on your race number on the Entrants page here
• Live results/ leaderboard throughout the event
• Centurion designed medal sent to you in the post once you complete your event - this will be a wooden medal and will come with a ribbon displaying your finish distance
• Centurion designed 100 mile finisher buckle, for finishers in the 100 mile event only
• (You can opt out of receiving the medal/ buckle during the registration process, in favour of planting a tree with trees not tees)
• There will be prizes for the winner of each category in each race eg: Under 5, 5km all the way to Vet 70 100 mile.
• Spot prizes from our sponsors la Sportiva, Ultimate Direction and Injinji for best posts/ photos/ interactions via social media/ email and the hashtag #centurioncommunity 
• 10% of all entry fees will go to charity. 5% to MIND (Charity no. 219830) and 5% to NHS Charities Together (Charity no. 1186569.) Over ?10,000 was donated on behalf of the One Community event in May.

How much is It

• Marathon - 50km - 50 mile distances - ?20
• 100 mile - ?30
• Free entries are available to runners under below terms*

Re-Run Random Event

As part of your One Community entry, you can also choose the option to be part of the Re-Run Random Event. If you choose this add-on, you will be contact by Charlotte and Dan at Re-Run and sent out your own unwanted event tee, with added Re-Run stamps. The challenge then is to run that event or an interpretation of it, within your One Community week. 100% of the funds will go to Re-Run to fund their shoe bank - the cost is ?10. You could end up with a tee from a 5km, of course you could end up with a UTMB Gilet....

There are 200 places available for this and 100 of them have already gone. Get in fast

2020 UPDATED EVENT ENTRY AVAILABILITY

REMOTE ULTRARUNNING WORKSHOPS

We recently held our first two online ultrarunning workshops. Each course is designed to deliver you the information, knowledge and skills to get more enjoyment out of your running, to maximise your potential and to help you avoid many of the common pitfalls that ultrarunning can lead to. 

Over the course of the morning we will focus on the topics that are central to enjoyment, improvement and sustainability in running ultras. These sessions cater for all experience levels, whether you are looking to run your first 50km or have years of racing under your belt.

The workshop takes place via a Zoom video call. These are interactive sessions where all participants will have engagement and questions and answers taken throughout. As we always say, no question is too stupid - this is a great opportunity to ask and have answered any and all running related questions you might have.

Each workshop runs from 0930 to 1300 and includes talks on all of the key topics outlined on the web page linked below.

The sessions are led by James Elson, Race Director at Centurion Running, a qualified UK Athletics coach with a decade of experience working with athletes of all abilities and Drew Sheffield, key staff member at Centurion Running and one of the most experienced mountain ultra runners in the UK.

Hello everybody and welcome to the final newsletter of 2020.

What a year it has been. Challenging would be a gross understatement. But here we are all the same and we have lots of news to bring you to round off the year.

Three Events Opening Over the Next Week

We have three events opening over the next 8 days or so. 

Autumn 100 2021 - 16-17 October:
The 2021 Autumn 100 will take place over the weekend of 16th - 17th October 2021. Full details are available here. The race opens tomorrow - Saturday 5th December at 1000. 

Wendover Woods 100 2021 - 9-10 July:
For 2021, we are bringing back the Wendover Woods 100. The event will take place over the same weekend as the Night 50km, starting on the Friday and ending shortly before the 50km begins. Only 100 places are available for this beast of a race. Full details are available by clicking here, the race opens next Saturday 12th December at 1000.

Mid Winter 100 2020 - 20-21 December:
And finally, we are putting on a pilot event for the new venue that we have moved into, our barn just outside of Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire. The race will be a 100 mile (20 x 5 mile loop) course on mixed road and trail, to be held over the winter solstice - 20th-21st December 2020. There are only 15 places available. Full details are available by clicking here. To register your interest, you need to add yourself to the waiting list and a lottery will be drawn on Saturday 12th December. Please only put your name down for consideration if you are absolutely sure you want to run, as we will not have time to go back and forward over the 7 days between accepting runners into the event and the event itself.

ONE COMMUNITY VIRTUAL EVENT
 

What we've seen across our own Centurion Community during this crisis is a pulling together even more than before. As a result we have set up the Centurion Running One Community virtual event, to take place over the last week in May. This will be the first time we have organised anything like this.

Centurion Running One Community is a virtual event which takes place over 7 days, starting at 0001 on Monday 25th May and ending at midnight on Sunday 31st May 2020.

During the ongoing situation where group gatherings in person are not possible, we have moved the in-person workshop, online. This course covers all of the same topics of the in-person day without the group led run portion (and lunch!). 

Over the course of the morning we will focus on the topics that are central to enjoyment, improvement and sustainability in running ultras. These sessions cater for all experience levels, whether you are looking to run your first 50km or have years of racing under your belt.

The workshop takes place via a Zoom video call. These are interactive sessions where all participants will have engagement and questions and answers taken throughout. As we always say, no question is too stupid - this is a great opportunity to ask and have answered any and all running related questions you might have.

Each workshop runs from 0930 to 1300 and includes talks on all of the key topics outlined on the web page linked below.

The sessions are led by James Elson, Race Director at Centurion Running, a qualified UK Athletics coach with a decade of experience working with athletes of all abilities and Drew Sheffield, key staff member at Centurion Running and one of the most experienced mountain ultra runners in the UK.

Hello everybody and welcome to the July 2020 Newsletter.

The big news this month is that our events are back. With the North Downs Way 100 taking place last weekend it was wonderful to see the community back together, runners, volunteers and staff all doing what they love most.

Whilst blistering temperatures led to a drop out rate that was third highest out of the 37 x 100 milers we have staged over the years, the event proved that we can get back to running races sustainably, with only relatively minor changes to race weekend to ensure the safety of all involved.

You can also find the results from our One Up event by clicking here. 600 runners started out aiming to climb as much elevation in the week as they could and it proved to be somewhat of an epic for many as new levels were constantly reached. Thank you so much to all of you who supported both of our virtual challenges this year.

We have recently upgraded our store website to include better features, product pages and navigation. You will find collections relevant to events and time of year appearing periodically.

We have just received all the new Autumn Winter Salomon and S/Lab Gear and Apparel. 

New in are a wider range of the popular Bonatti Pro Waterproof Jackets in a range of new colours, all of the classic Salomon and S/Lab Race Vests and to follow in a week or so from now, the brand new S/Lab Ultra 3 trail shoe.

COACHING

As we get back to racing now is the time to think about getting help and support. We offer two different levels of coaching, one to one where you will work with one of our core team of 5 coaches. And Training Plan + where for just ?55 per month you get a personalised training plan and access to our head coaches James Elson and Robbie Britton via a community group and fortnightly group calls. An opportunity to form new relationships with other runners from all over and the best trail and ultra specific coaching advice available all in one place. Check out all the details via the website here.

Hello everybody and welcome to 2021 with us at Centurion. 

Obviously the year is off to a challenging start but we are going to continue to forge ahead with good planning and optimism, such that we all have things to aim for and focus on, despite such a large amount of uncertainty over the near future. We have three virtual events to kick start the year, two of which we have entries open for now. There is also an update below across our events, the store and coaching opportunities.

2021 Virtual Events Starting Soon

We have three virtual events to tell you about. Virtual running has brought so many benefits with it and we are keen to start 2021 with focus, optimism and engagement through the format. In 2020, our One Community (Part 1 and 2) and One Up events had over 6000 runners taking part in total, raised over ?18,000 across five charities and kept our community not just alive but growing rapidly. They of course also brought some much needed revenue in to replace the 5 cancelled in-person events we suffered at the hands of national lock downs. Our ''One'' series continues with some more of the same and something quite different.

One Love - 5km/ Half/ 50km - 13th-14th February 2021
 
Centurion Running One Love is a virtual event which takes place over Valentines weekend, the 13th-14th February 2021. Runners have a choice of three distances - 5km, Half Marathon or 50km and have between 0001 GMT on the Saturday and 2359 on the Sunday to complete their distance. The event is for everybody, anywhere in the world, of any age. It''s the ideal pre-season training as we look forward past the current situation to our in person events getting started. Two of our senior coaches at Centurion - James Elson and Robbie Britton - will be providing weekly group coaching calls to anyone who signs up to the 50km and wants to take part. There is also a Re-Run Wheel of Fortune add on that is open to all to get a twist on your chosen distance! See all the information via the pages here, entries are open now.

One Community III - 5km/ 10km/ Half/ Marathon/ 50km/ 50 mile/ 100km/ 100 mile - 2nd - 8th August 2021

Our third One Community event will run from the 2nd - 8th April 2021 with the same overall format as our previous event with one or two additions along the way.

Starting on Good Friday, runners get the chance to aim big with the four day Easter weekend. Kids can get involved once again too as this starts just at the start of the school holidays. 

This time we have added a 100km format, and the Re-Run Random Event is BACK for round two! This sold out in 36 hours last time, so get in quick so as not to miss out.

Or start off your 2021 season with a 100 mile buckle on offer to finishers of that distance once again....

One Virtual Slam - 200/ 400/ 600 Miles - 1st February-31st March 2021

Starting 1st February and running until 31st March we are going to be offering runners the chance to have a go at running one of our Grand Slams. Those taking part will have 59 days to cover either 200 miles (50 Mile Slam), 400 miles (100 Mile Slam) or 600 miles (The Double Slam). 

Working out at an average of either 3.4, 6.8 or 10.2 miles per day.

The perfect way to build that consistency that will see you through to your best race performances ever in 2021. Huge medals will be available to those that complete their challenges and want them (planting a Tree with Trees not tees or in this case many trees will as always be an option), come and see just what a monumental task the Slams are in their own right, by running those targets over a 2 month period.
