Hello beautiful community,
“The universe has a way of aligning the right people and opportunities at its appropriate time. Trust that" – Anon
I wanted to kick off this week with this, one of my favourite quotes. And I also wanted to acknowledge that many of us are experiencing different emotions through this time.
For the most part, I feel extraordinarily grateful as bunkering down at home has afforded me the time and space to create, ideate, reimagine and put together a bunch of really exciting projects to help inspire and educate people to live their best lives. I’m feeling in flow and I’m feeling grateful.
But, I also try to give myself a reality check and realise that whilst I sit somewhat in my self imposed bubble of creativity, there are people out there doing it really tough – mentally, emotionally, financially.
I had a couple of conversations over the weekend with friends of mine – actors, musicians and those in the events industry – and the conversations were far from happy – and these from some of my most positive, uplifting friends whose job it normally is to entertain, inspire and selflessly give so much of themselves to others. Yet in this time, to be honest, they were left reeling about how to make ends meet financially (ineligibility for govt grants) and their mental health was suffering big-time (sudden loss of identity and purpose among other things). And I have to say, these
conversations left (most happy and upbeat little old me) feeling pretty heavy-hearted and a little bit powerless.
So, for those of you also feeling at a bit of a loss, I give you these words.
I know there is so much that feels so far beyond our control right now. When tough times hit us, it''s easy to go into feeling powerless, helpless, out of control, fearful, stifled, and isolated. What I urge you to do, as counterintuitive as it sounds, is trust and surrender.
No, I don’t mean to just bury your head in the sand, turn a blind eye, be silly, and hope any problems you’re experiencing will just go away. Instead what I would encourage you to do is to really feel deeply and profoundly into whatever
it is that would make you feel happy and on purpose in this moment. What’s one thing you could do right now to lift your spirits? Even if everything around you could feel like it is crumbling, hold on resolutely to whatever it is that you think will make you feel most alive or the thing you want to do more than anything.
I can only speak from experience - at every time in my life when everything has been falling apart, I have just held onto this with every part of me, and THAT is when things start to get into flow. Often its completely unexplainable and you’ll hear me talk a lot about serendipity and synchronicity. My greatest openings, learnings, changes and opportunities truly come when I’m able to:
1) Get a really clear sense of purpose / what it is that I
2) Surrender and don’t try to control the outcome too much.
3) Take whatever action seems like the next logical step once things start shifting and getting into flow.
Things DO start to align when you let them. Just don’t let yourself be paralysed by fear. Instead, stay open to change and possibility. Focus on what you do have control over, and lean into what small attainable joys are available to you in the present. You’ve got this.
Sending all the love I can muster right now. I see you. Big love xx L
