The Do's and Don'ts: Advocacy and Lobbying During an Election Year
Nonprofits (and those that are fiscally sponsored) have every right to advocate on behalf of policies they believe in, but when this advocacy deals with specific legislation, limits and restrictions come into play that you need to know about. What’s more, given heightened passions as the election approaches, all project staff should be reminded that no person, during working hours, or in their capacity as a staff person or volunteer of a project of Community Partners, may take any action or make any payment in support of, or opposition to, any candidate for public office – even in nonpartisan races, or a particular political party. The IRS strictly prohibits this, and a violation can result in the loss of Community Partners’ tax exemption status. READ MORE

Our Financial Report Card
Our role as an effective financial steward is one of our most important. Which is why the annual external review and evaluation of our financial systems and processes is so very important to us – and to our projects as well.
We’re very pleased to share that our 2018-19 annual audit, prepared for us by the firm of SingerLewak, is now available online here, along with our most current Form 990. That we can annually share this clean bill of financial health is a testament not just to our own internal operations, but to the participation of each and every one of our fiscally sponsored projects and intermediary partners.

An Issue of Concern to All Nonprofits
Community Partners has signed on, with CalNonprofits and 20,000 other nonprofit organizations and individuals, to a petition opposing the proposed sale of the .ORG domain registry to a private equity firm. Critics in the nonprofit sector feel strongly that this could impact the millions of individuals and organizations that operate a .ORG website, subjecting them to potential censorship and the possibility of price increases on domain registration and renewals. Even Congress is looking into the issue.
You can join the petition here. A group of charitable web leaders have launched a nonprofit cooperative organization as an alternative to the proposed sale, which you can read about here.
