20 Under 40 Class of 2021

20 Under 40 honors outstanding professionals under the age of 40 who excel in their industry, demonstrate leadership in their company, and are good community citizens. In other words, they represent the best of Columbia.

Your nominations help us select potential class members. A strong nomination will help your nominee make it to the first round of our selection process.
 

Tips for a strong nomination:

• The nominee must be under age 40 as of 01/01/2021.
• The nominee can''t be a previous 20 Under 40 class member.
• The nominee must work in Boone County.
• Self nominations will not be considered.
• Include specific numbers and details on the nominee's achievements, their impact on the community, industry, and company, and their vision for future impact. For example, "She increased sales across the company by 20% over two years."

Every day, I''m reminded of how lucky I am to call Columbia home. That gratitude grows more and more as I see the amazing things individuals, organizations, and companies are doing to help our community flourish.

So, I happily present to you our Nonprofit Issue. I hope as you read the pages of this issue, you get inspired and feel the love and warmth of our community.

On the cover, you will see Barbra Horrell, an incredible woman who serves as a board member for Blind Boone Foundation, Sharp End African-American Heritage Trail, and COMO 200. Spoiler alert: she''s also our 2020 Impact COMO award recipient for Most Impactful Board Member.

Finance can be a challenging topic to write about, especially in a fun way. But we did it.

In our new issue centered around finance, we take a look at how three bakers turned their love of cookies into a tasty side hustle. We see how members of our community take care of their aging parents and get advice from family lawyers. We break down the difference between credit unions and banks. We even get an insight on what kids are really thinking about money through our money guide for kids.

When COVID hit Columbia, our lives became far from normal. We missed out on birthdays, graduations, and sending our kids off to prom. We missed the interactions with people beyond our families. 

We missed our communities.
 

In our new issue centered around community, we take a look at the various communities around Columbia, and how they stayed connected during quarantine. We see how a few tight-knit neighborhoods made the best of social distancing, the importance of your mental health during these trying times, a family that's bringing mouth-watering South-Florida style food to Columbia, and so much more.
