Faces of change: Supporting leaders, building crucial networks in Colorado's creative sector
What does it take to be a leader in Colorado's creative economy?
Skill, relentless drive and, of course, friends -- or, at least, a few dependable colleagues who can mentor you through the rough times.
The leaders who attend Colorado Creative Industries' Change Leader Institute often arrive with all the stamina it takes move things forward. But they don't always have experience as negotiators, and they don't always have a network of peers they can rely on for some good advice. That's especially true for leaders who live in rural and mountain areas where creative industries are only starting to bloom.
Since 2014, the Change Leader Institute has been providing them with tools: hands-on training, practical advice and introductions to a lasting set of trusted, professional allies who share their goals and challenges. This week, Confluence explores the program and checks back with some of its certified Change Leader graduates to see how the institute has helped them along.

Boosting the arts, lifting society
The Arts in Society grants are changing the way the nonprofit arts are funded in Colorado, expanding the focus to include not only large, established cultural groups, but also individual artists and grassroots organizations focused on social justice. In its few years of existence, the program has provided assistance to dozens of creatives working with veterans, refugees, grieving children and more.
The grants bring together resources from the state's major arts supporters: the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation, Colorado Creative Industries, SCFD and the Hemera Foundation. And their reach is wide, providing a lift to civic-minded art efforts in urban, rural and mountain communities.
Here, we profile the program and talk to some of the recipients about how the money has helped them help others.

If you haven't been to Grand Junction lately, you haven't been to Grand Junction
The small city in Western Colorado is now a full-fledged Creative District.
Special Report: In Grand Junction, connecting creativity to all aspects of civic life
Grand Junction has plenty of sculpture on its downtown streets, but what other kinds of creativity can move the remote Western Slope city forward? Change doesn't always come easily in Colorado's more rural and remote places.
