As the year draws to a close, here�s a re-cap of our favorite news and highlights of 2019!

Our latest hotfix is available now from www.CRYENGINE.com and the CRYENGINE Launcher. The release is our fifth hotfix since the launch of CRYENGINE 5.6, a major update for the engine, and addresses feedback from the CRYENGINE community. Work doesn�t stop, so keep your feedback coming on the dedicated forum feedback thread so that we can address them in due course.

CRYENGINE Learning presents: 2019 Tutorial Playlist

We�re committed to evolving and expanding our learning offering, and in 2019 we put out a range of tutorials hosted by CRYENGINE staff, showing you professional workflows packed full of tips and tricks. From using the physics system to animation and lighting, there is plenty of material to check out, whether you�re new to CRYENGINE or a veteran. Expect more documentation and tutorials in 2020, and do let us know if there�s any area you�d like to see covered on our usual channels.

We relaunched CRYENGINE.com! That overhaul included a new landing page, an updated and expanded support and FAQ section, a new learning area, and CRYENGINE Marketplace improvements. We think it�s slicker, more usable, and more useful, but we�ll continue to evolve the site in response to your needs. Keep your feedback coming.

What changed?

Ray tracing for everyone!

2019 was the year that we revealed our future hardware and API agnostic ray tracing technology, first at GDC in a video called Neon Noir, and then as a benchmark that gives you a score on how well your rig can run ray tracing. We�ll be bringing this technology to everyone in a future CRYENGINE release, but for now, if you haven�t already, download the benchmark and see Neon Noir in action for yourself.

New C++ sample project, GalaxSys

We released a new sample project for you to play and investigate the code and systems behind it for yourself with our new twin-stick sample project, GalaxSys. Available now on the CRYENGINE Marketplace, GalaxSys is a vibrant all-action twin-stick shooter and was developed in a short amount of time by just a few people at CRYENGINE. Give the game a whirl and check out the code for yourself to discover how it was put together, expand on it, or re-imagine it as you wish.

Hunt: Showdown

This year, the award-winning Hunt: Showdown received its full release on PC and Xbox after a successful early access period in which fans from around the world played a vital role in its development. Hunt: Showdown is our competitive first-person PvP bounty hunting game with heavy PvE elements. Set in the darkest corners of the world, it packs the thrill of survival games into a match-based format.

Savage, nightmarish monsters roam the Louisiana swamps, and you are part of a group of rugged bounty hunters bound to rid the world of their ghastly presence.

The Climb on Oculus Quest

We brought our award-winning free solo rocking climbing game, The Climb, to Oculus Quest. The adrenaline-packed climbing game allows players to experience the rush of dangerous solo climbs in stunning, hyper-realistic settings from the comfort of just about anywhere with the incredible freedom offered by the completely wireless Oculus Quest. The Climb supports Cross-Buy, so players who already own The Climb for Rift will receive a copy for Quest gratis and vice versa.

Razer Chroma integration is coming to CRYENGINE

Neon Noir ray tracing benchmark, which gives you a score based on how well your rig can run CRYENGINE's future ray tracing technology, proudly supports Razer Chroma-enabled devices. And a native integration will be coming to CRYENGINE this year so you can implement immersive Razer Chroma effects in your games. Razer Chroma is an RGB ecosystem that allows multicolored lighting on a range of devices like keyboards and mice, and it can even sync up with a smart lighting system in your house.

Joshua Nuttall, Support Engineer, said: "The Razer Chroma API is simple to use. The setup for Neon Noir uses Flowgraph nodes, which directly map to Razer animation files. These animation files allow us to set up a pre-determined animation of each light on all devices, from the keyboard to a headset and even lights in your rooms. In Neon Noir, for instance, when the drone appears with its flashing lights, those effects are mapped, so the keyboard will light up blue and red, syncing real-world lights around you with what you see on the screen."

"By adding the API to CRYENGINE, users will have access to the Razer Chroma ecosystem. We want to make it as easy as possible to use, so developers will be able to add their own effects and trigger layers individually, without needing Flowgraph, and we plan for visual scripting and C# support. Developers will be able to, for example, boost the immersive experience of a game by making lights in the real world flicker when an explosion happens, making the player further feel like they're on the battlefield. Or you can use the system to complement gameplay by adding a lighting pattern to a keyboard to indicate the presence of a clue or objective. We're really excited to see what users come up with when this exciting integration rolls out."

Your CRYENGINE 2020 Wrap-up

We'd like to wish everyone in the CRYENGINE community Happy Holidays and a safe, healthy, and prosperous New Year. We've seen some amazing things achieved with CRYENGINE in 2020, and as we look forward to 2021, we thought we'd take a look back at a few of our highlights from the year, along with some updates from the team.

Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem

This year Wolcen Studios, based in Nice, France, released their action RPG Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem. Featuring a deep story and class-free character development, the game delivers beautiful, compelling hack and slack gameplay. Wolcen has recently added Bloodtrail, an update featuring a new mode and content, so there's never been a better time to dive into the game.

CRYENGINE launches on Twitch!

This year we launched our official CRYENGINE Twitch channel to accompany Devcom 2020, with ten sessions that showed viewers how to make a complete game with our engine. We have more planned for 2021, so stay tuned to our usual channels for news on what's coming and subscribe to Twitch to get notified about when we go live again.

Crysis Remastered

Our CRYENGINE-powered classic received a remaster this year. Crysis Remastered, developed in partnership with Saber Interactive, is out now for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. The remaster features software-based ray tracing on PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X and brings CRYENGINE's hardware-agnostic ray tracing technology to contemporary GPUs on PC. A recent patch added the classic level Ascension to the PC version of the game, and the level will also be coming to the Xbox and PlayStation editions of the game in a future update.

Marvelous designs!

Our very own Hunt: Showdown partnered with Marvelous Designer for a fan art contest that saw the community submit some amazing outfits for new Hunters in the game. Armed with free assets and a tutorial featuring a practical workflow, which is still available for you to check out, the competition was fierce. You can see the winners below and find a link to the tutorial if you missed it the first time around.

Marketplace vendors update

Asset submission on the CRYENGINE Marketplace is currently unavailable due to extended maintenance. We will let you know when it is available again, and we apologize for any inconvenience this might cause. Asset purchase is not affected by this downtime.
