You might be getting tired of COVID-19 related emails by now. But since we are being asked whether we are still open for business, we feel compelled to add another one to your collection.

The short answer is Yes! We are definitely still open for business.

We will remain open for business as an essential supplier to critical infrastructure. We have numerous customers in areas deemed vital by CISA: https://www.cisa.gov/critical-infrastructure-sectors.

We continue to monitor guidelines from the CDC as well as Minnesota Department of Health. We are taking all recommended precautions in the interest of the safety and health of our staff and our customers. The majority of our operation was already online before COVID-19, so making adjustments to continue most operations remotely has not been much of a transition for us. We have only a minimal staff physically present at our warehouse to package and ship orders, and those involved are practicing safe distancing and all other applicable procedures. Our component vendors and contract manufacturing vendors are also engaged in following all applicable safety and health precautions.

We had transitioned to an IP based phone system last year, and transitioned to a cloud based accounting system as of the first of this year. Online ordering and online technical support had already been in place for a number of years.  With the IP based phone system, regardless of where we are working physically, we are still at our extension number using our main office phone number. We didn’t see COVID-19 coming, but we were well prepared for it. The adjustments required for us to continue operating safely have been minimal.

We are pleased to announce that our new Babel Buster 3 model BB3-7101 Modbus to BACnet IP gateway is now available. The BB3-7101 is the updated version of our popular work horse known as Babel Buster 2 model BB2-7010.

* BB3-7101 is BTL Certified and UL Listed
* BB3-7101 is faster and has higher capacity
* BB3-7101 can support as many as 5,000 BACnet objects
* BB3-7101 has a secure web UI (https)

One of our benchmark tests was able to read 5,000 Modbus TCP registers into 5,000 BACnet Analog Input objects at a rate of once every 7 seconds. This throughput was possible because Modbus was reading multiple registers per request, so as they say, "your results may vary". But to be honest, we didn't expect to map 5,000 points in under 10 seconds no matter how much optimizing we did, so we were pleased with the results.

We have also added some improvements in how you configure the gateway. We still have the stand-alone configuration builder you can run on your PC, but the BB3-7101 will now directly import CSV files for point mapping. Of course, the same familiar web UI in the gateway itself is available to map points and do all of the configuration, too.

Thanks to technology improvements, this faster better gateway does not cost more. In fact, the Flash file system capacity of the BB3-7101 is equivalent to the -10X option for the BB2-7010, so the Babel Buster 3 is actually less expensive than the equivalent Babel Buster 2, and yet comes with 5 times the object capacity.
