Women''s Basketball
-Cleveland State (21-10) will continue play in the #HLWBB Tournament on Monday (March 9), as the Vikings are set to take on IUPUI in a Semifinal contest at 12:00 p.m.
-The Vikings earned a spot in the #HLWBB Semifinals after picking up an 84-48 victory over Youngstown State in the First Round and a 63-52 win against Wright State in the Quarterfinals.

Men''s Basketball

Wrestling

-Redshirt senior Evan Cheek secured his second career trip to the NCAA Championships.
-Cheek was the runner-up at 141 pounds at the Mid-American Conference Championships.

Fencing
-Cleveland State will be off this week as it awaits word on any possible NCAA Championships selections.
-Twenty Vikings competed at the NCAA Midwest Regional this past week, including the maximum possible on the men''s side (12).
-Ahmad Taqi posted the highest finish by a Viking at the Regional, placing fifth in men''s foil.

Men''s Swimming & Diving

Women''s Tennis
-Cleveland State (8-4) will split its time at home and on the road this week, traveling to Eastern Michigan on Wednesday, March 11 and hosting Duquesne on Friday, March 13.
-The Vikings dropped a hard-fought 4-3 match against Akron last time out, picking up the doubles point along with singles wins from Siân Payne and Gaby Schoenberg.
-Gaby Schoenberg picked up her 46^th career singles win on Wednesday, and is now just four wins shy of reaching the 50-win milestone.

Lacrosse
-Cleveland State will travel for a pair of games this week, taking on Mercer Monday (March 9) and facing Hampton Saturday (March 14).
-The Vikings returned home and got back in the win column this past Friday, holding on for a 9-8 win over Bellarmine.
-Senior co-captain Danny Tesler won 18 of 19 faceoffs to post the best single-game faceoff percentage in program history.
-Senior Chase Baker had a trio of points, his highest output since his freshman year.

Men''s Golf
-The Vikings will return to action this Monday (March 9) and Tuesday (March 10), participating in the Challenge at Concession Club.
-This marks the second tournament of a five-tournament spring slate for Cleveland State.
-During the first weekend of the spring season, Zach Robbins led the Vikings with a ninth place finish (218) at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate.

Softball
-Cleveland State (6-9) will have one of its busiest stretches of the season this week, as they are set for eight games over a five-day span.
-Last time out, the Vikings posted a 3-3 record at The Spring Games, picking up wins over N.C. A&T, Bethune-Cookman and Penn.
-So far this season, Sydney Bajusz is leading the Viking offense with 12 hits and 11 RBI, while Kelly Hysong owns a team-best four wins in the circle.

Miller led the Vikings to a pair of wins over Youngstown State and Wright State in the first two rounds of the #HLWBB Tournament, helping Cleveland State advance to the Horizon League Semifinals. Miller averaged a double-double on the week, posting 27 points and nine rebounds against YSU and following that up with 10 points and 11 rebounds against WSU.  Miller also recorded six steals, two assists and one blocked shot over the two games.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Cleveland State Vikings (0-3) fell to the nationally-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes (5-0), 67-61, in a battle on Sunday evening at Value City Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

The Buckeyes began Sunday''s contest knocking down their first two three-pointers, taking an early 6-0 lead, before junior forward Deante Johnson sunk a pair of free throws to get Cleveland State on the scoreboard.

D''Moi Hodge recorded his seventh point of the day off of a layup to bring the Vikings within one point of the Buckeyes, 12-11, with 11:39 left to play in the first half.

At the intermission of Sunday''s contest, Ohio State held a seven-point, 31-24, advantage. Cleveland State had seven Vikings notch points in the opening 20 minutes of action, including a team-high seven points from Hodge.

Ohio State scored the first four points of the second half, opening up a double-digit, 35-24, lead. Craig Beaudion knocked down a jump shot to bring the Vikings within single digits, 35-26, with 17:38 on the clock.

Chris Greene buried a three-pointer with 14:43 remaining in regulation, narrowing Cleveland State''s deficit to three points, 38-35. The junior transfer then hit a layup, bringing the Vikes within one point of the No. 22 Buckeyes, 38-37.

Ohio State led Cleveland State by eight points, 47-39, at the 8:53 mark of the second half, before Hodge responded by connecting on a triple.

The Buckeyes maintained their pace throughout the rest of the second half, finishing Sunday''s contest with a six-point, 67-61, victory.

ROCHESTER, Michigan – Torrey Patton notched his second straight double-double, but it wouldn''t be enough as the Vikings fell to Oakland on Tuesday night (March 3) in the first round of the Horizon League men''s basketball tournament, 80-59.

• Torrey Patton had another stellar performance, notching his second consecutive double-double (third in four games) pulling down a game-high 13 rebounds, to go along with 11 points and three assists in 35.4 minutes of play.

GAME RECAP:

Deante Johnson threw down a two-handed dunk at the 12:34 mark of the first half, putting the Vikings up 14-12. That two-point lead would be the last lead the Vikings would see the rest of the contest.

The Golden Grizzlies opened up a 10-point, 28-18, lead with just over seven minutes left in the half and extended their advantage heading into halftime, 41-26.

Oakland began the second half on a 19-9 run, to build its lead up to 25 points, 60-35, with 13:04 on the clock.

The Vikings were able to bring the deficit down to less than 20 points on three occasions in the second half, the last time coming with 7:19 left to play in regulation, when Al Eichelberger recorded a layup.

Oakland''s lead was too steep for Cleveland State to overcome, as the Vikings'' season would come to an end Tuesday night with an 80-59 loss.

FORT WAYNE, Indiana – Cleveland State took down the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons, 89-80, Sunday evening at the Gates Sports Complex in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The win marks Cleveland State''s first two-game Horizon League sweep of the 2020-21 season.

The Vikings began Sunday''s match on a 7-2 run, behind scoring from Torrey Patton and D''Moi Hodge. Cleveland State opened up an 11-point, 20-9, lead off of Hodge''s third three-pointer of the evening. Yahel Hill knocked down a triple of his own, giving the Vikes a 14-point advantage.

Purdue Fort Wayne narrowed its deficit with 8:54 left to play in the opening half, 27-21, off of a Bobby Planutis and-one.

D''Moi Hodge responded by burying back-to-back three-pointers, giving Cleveland State a 33-21 lead. The junior transfer knocked down his first five three-point attempts of the game.

At the half, the Vikings held a 53-31 lead. Hodge poured in 31 of Cleveland State''s 53 first half points on eight made three-pointers, both program records.

Hodge continued his hot hand in the second half, knocking down his 10^th triple of the game at the 18:07 mark of the second half. With his 10^th three-pointer, Hodge surpassed Trey Lewis and Parcell Coles for the most made three-pointers in school history.

Cleveland State maintained its pace throughout the course of the second half, holding onto their lead and earning the win. Sunday''s league victory marks the first time since the 2014-15 season the Vikings started Horizon League play with a 2-0 record.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State Vikings earned their fourth-straight Horizon League victory Sunday afternoon, taking down Youngstown State, 81-74, inside the Wolstein Center. With the win, Cleveland State has matched its best start in league play since the 2010-11 season (4-0). 

Much like the first game of the series a day earlier, Youngstown State jumped out to an early lead. At the 17:18 mark of the first half, the Penguins had a 9-1 advantage. Youngstown State opened up a 10-point lead, 25-15, off of a Christian Bentley triple nine minutes into the contest. 

Jayson Woodrich knocked down a jump shot to bring the Vikings within two of the Penguins, 32-30, with 3:13 left to play in the opening half. However, Youngstown State closed the half on an 8-0 run on its way to a 40-30 halftime advantage. 

The Penguins buried a pair of triples in the opening minute of the second half to open up a 14-point cushion, 46-32. Cleveland State did not back down, though, and slowly worked its way back into the affair.   

Torrey Patton would knock down back-to-back buckets for the Vikings, narrowing their deficit to only two points, 56-54, with 12:45 on the clock. At the 7:54 mark of the second half, Tre Gomillion poured in his 19th point of the game, setting a new career-high in points, while giving Cleveland State its first lead of the game, 62-60. 

The lead changed hands a few times before a Gomillion bucket tied the game, 67-67, and the Penguins never led again.   

Craig Beaudion''s old-fashioned three-point play broke the final tie of the game and put Cleveland State in front to stay, 73-70, with 2:14 to play. He then buried a three-pointer on Cleveland State''s next possession to give the Vikings a four-point advantage,76-72, with under two minutes to play, and Youngstown would get no closer. 

Gomillion led a trio of Vikings in double figures with 23 points on exquisite 11-of-12 shooting from the floor. Patton had 19 points and Hodge contributed 14 while Deante Johnson tallied a game-high 10 rebounds.

FORT WAYNE, Indiana – The Cleveland State Vikings took down Purdue Fort Wayne, 63-61, in their first league contest of the 2020-21 season at the Gates Sports Center. Saturday''s win marked Cleveland State''s first league-opening win since the 2014-15 season.

The Vikes scored the first four points of Saturday night''s ball game, with juniors Tre Gomillion and Deante Johnson each tallying a bucket. The Mastodons, down 4-0, responded by going on an 8-2 run, before Gomillion knocked down a three-pointer, giving the Vikes a 9-8 advantage.

Senior forward Torrey Patton buried back-to-back triples to give Cleveland State a 17-10 lead with 8:22 left to play in the opening half. Patton propelled the Vikes to a 10-point, 22-12, advantage off of his third triple of the night at the 5:30 mark of the first half, assisted by freshman Alec Oglesby.

Purdue Fort Wayne narrowed its deficit heading into intermission, with Cleveland State holding a 29-24 lead.

Just like the first half, Cleveland State opened up the second half scoring the first four points, extending its lead, 33-24. 

Cleveland State built a 12-point, 39-27, lead off of a Gomillion jump shot with 14:04 left to play in regulation. Purdue Fort Wayne''s Demetric Horton knocked down a three-pointer, bringing the Mastodons within nine points of the Vikings, before junior forward Chris Greene responded, burying a three-pointer of his own.

Horton brought the Mastodons within three points of the Vikings, 46-43, off of a corner triple with 7:54 on the clock.

Purdue Fort Wayne was able to get within one point of Cleveland State, 49-48 with 5:40 left to play, but never able to gain the lead.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State Vikings took down Horizon League, and in-state, rival Youngstown State, 87-69, inside the Wolstein Center during Saturday''s home opener. Saturday''s contest marked the latest home opener since the 1969-70 season when the Vikes faced off against Eastern Montana State on Dec. 27, 1969 (91-81, win). 

Youngstown State opened Saturday''s contest with an eight-point lead, 19-11, with 9:44 left to play in the first half. Cleveland State responded by going on a 10-0 run, taking a 21-19 advantage, capped off by a Torrey Patton bucket. 

After being knotted up, 22-22, the Vikes ended the opening half on a 16-6 run to hold a 10-point, 38-28, advantage at the intermission.  

Just like the first half, the Penguins had the hot hand to start the final 20 minutes of play, scoring the first seven points and cutting their deficit to just three points (38-35). Junior forward Deante Johnson ended the Vikings'' scoring drought emphatically, slamming home a two-handed dunk.  

Northeast Ohio product Yahel Hill buried a three-pointer at the 14:04 mark of the second half, giving the Vikings their double-digit advantage back, 48-38. CSU would lead by at least 10 points for the remainder of the contest. 

Cleveland State would extend its lead past 20 points on a Chris Greene layup with 9:58 left to play in regulation, taking a 61-41 advantage. 

Cleveland State notched its largest lead of 22 points on multiple occasions, the first of which came after a pair of D''Moi Hodge free throws, which gave the Vikings a 72-50 edge with 7:34 to play. 

Patton led three Vikings in double figures by tying for game-high honors with 17 points while also tying for the team lead with six rebounds. Hodge added 14 points while Greene contributed 13 for Cleveland State. 

Cleveland State shot 31-56 (.554) from the field while holding Youngstown State to a 21-63 (.333) mark. 

With Saturday''s win, the Vikings are off to their best Horizon League start in the last six seasons, owning a perfect 3-0 record in league play.

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State Vikings remained undefeated in Horizon League play after taking down the Northern Kentucky Norse, 58-44, Friday night inside the Wolstein Center. 

The Vikings, now a perfect 7-0 in league play, tied the 2007-08 team for the best league start since the 1992-93 team began its league campaign with 14 consecutive wins. CSU''s current seven-game winning streak ties the 2013-14 team, and the 2011-12 team, for the longest winning streak since the 2010-11 season (12 straight games). 

Cleveland State jumped out to an early 12-2 lead, a run capped off by a Tre Gomillion bucket. Jayson Woodrich buried a three-pointer, assisted by Algevon Eichelberger, with 10:22 left to play in the opening half, giving Cleveland State a 17-point advantage (21-4). 

The Vikings maintained their pace throughout the rest of the opening half, holding a 12-point, 34-22, lead heading into intermission. Eight of 10 Vikings who saw the court in the first 20 minutes of action scored at least two points. 

Northern Kentucky cut into its deficit early in the second half, as David Bohm buried a three-pointer three minutes in, bringing the Norse within eight points of the Vikes. Eichelberger recorded a bucket for Cleveland State with 15:46 left to play in regulation, extending Cleveland State''s lead back to double-digits (37-27), where it would remain for the remainder of the contest.  

The Vikings pushed their lead to as many as 18 points on two occasions within the final eight minutes as the outcome was not in question down the stretch. 

Cleveland State held Northern Kentucky to 27.9% shooting from the floor and just 14.3% from downtown. The Vikings also used notable advantages in points in the paint (28-18) and bench points (20-6) to cruise to the win. 

Torrey Patton had a team-high 14 points for CSU while adding eight rebounds.
