COVID-19: Hardworking Parents Need Our Help
Dear
Friend,
As the coronavirus intensifies, more and more people in our community are turning to us for assistance. Hardworking parents like Jenny and her husband Alex are skipping meals to stretch their limited budget and feed their children.
"I try to distract my kids during dinner, so they don't notice there's no food on my plate," Jenny says. "No kid should have to worry about being hungry."
Imagine the impact you can have for families like hers. They're scared and worried about the days ahead. With a few clicks, you join our Annual Fund and alleviate those fears.
Every $1 you donate helps us provide food to hungry children, seniors, and families in our community.
Help Parents Like Jenny and Alex
Give Now
We know this crisis will have a long-term impact on our community. Our neighbors will grapple with unemployment, and their children will feel the pains of hunger.
With your help, we are purchasing and distributing more food to meet the rapidly expanding need. Generous donations have helped us commit to more than 1 million pounds of food to reach our warehouse between now and the end of May. And we continue to source more food when and where we can. Please help make that possible.
When you join our Annual Fund Drive Against Hunger, you help families like Alex and Jenny's right now - and in the difficult months ahead.
All the best,
Your Friends at Connecticut Food Bank
P.S. Please be as generous as you can and give to the Annual Fund now. Your gift will put meals on the table for our neighbors in need during this uncertain time.

All Liz and Josh want is a stable life for their three beautiful children. When Liz lost her job and Josh lost his ability to work overtime, that stable life seemed impossible.
"Before we found Connecticut Food Bank, Josh and I sometimes had to skip meals so our kids could eat - and to keep a roof over our heads," Liz says. "But now.feeding our family is one thing we don't have to worry about."
Since mid-March, more than 300,000 of our neighbors have filed for unemployment due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will wait weeks for benefits. Your help is needed now more than ever. Connecticut Food Bank is the critical link between hunger and hope for Liz''s family and so many others who find themselves in a struggle they couldn''t have imagined even a month ago.
We can't be that link without your generous support.

Your Kindness Provides Food for People Who Need It Most
Dear
Friend,
We are learning that the COVID pandemic doesn't end as quickly as it struck. Unemployment remains high and more people are turning to us than ever before. These are hardworking parents. These are families whose children have gone without their school-provided meals for months due to school closures. These are seniors worrying about next month's rent and tomorrow's food. These are our neighbors.
The road to recovery is going to be long and challenging for the hundreds of thousands in Connecticut impacted by COVID. But with your help, we can do it.
Thanks to friends of Connecticut Food Bank, if you join our Harvest Club monthly giving program, your gift will be matched in June, July, and August, up to $50,000. Becoming a Harvest Club member allows Connecticut Food Bank to be there to help our neighbors today, this week, next month, and for as long as they need help.
That means that children that would normally have spent the summer hungry won't have to worry about where their next meal will come from. Seniors won't have to choose between rent and food.
JOIN OUR HARVEST CLUB
Give Now
As a sustaining donor, you'll be a vital and valued member of our Harvest Club. Families are wondering how they'll get food this week - let alone the rest of this summer and into the fall. Your Harvest Club membership can be the help they need.
Give now, and your monthly donation will be doubled for the entire summer. We're rising above this crisis - together. Join us with a gift, and you'll improve our neighbors' lives.
Gratefully,
Beverly Catchpole
Senior Director of Development
P.S. Even if you can't become a sustainer today, you can still make a life-changing difference by making a matched gift today.

Dear
Friend,
It seems impossible to imagine that just over a month ago we entered a pandemic response that has completely changed the way we live and that has caused wrenching dislocations for hundreds of thousands of people in our state. People who never thought they would struggle with hunger now find themselves in lines that stretch to several hundred vehicles long as they wait for volunteers in gloves and masks to load bags of food in their trunks at "drive-thru pantries."
We could not imagine the scope of need we now face. And we could not imagine the scale of response it has required. But we are meeting the challenge. And we are meeting it with your help.
We are distributing more food to our network of partner agencies than ever before. They continue to see increased need and their average orders have increased in size by 20% or greater in the past month as they respond to the needs of so many.
A distribution at Christ the Bread of Life Parish in Hamden was relocated to Hamden High School after serving 167 families in early March. The high school location allows for more vehicles to wait safely in line. The April 4 distribution at Hamden High School served 490 households in the new drive-thru system and continues to grow.
We can''t meet this challenge without your ongoing support. As demand grows, we are increasing our food orders and are paying 50% to 100% more than we did mere months ago. And we will need to be increasingly aggressive to have available stock in our warehouse as lead-times on orders grow farther and farther apart. We currently are more than 1 million pounds below our on-hand inventory requirements to assure stable distribution. Thanks to generous support from donors like you, we are working to close that gap and keep the food flowing to our neighbors who are struggling.
To get a sense of how our network is responding to social distancing while meeting needs, watch this brief video of a distribution in Stratford, which relocated from its former site at Stratford Academy's Johnson House to Victoria Soto School to accommodate the new social distancing protocols.
These social distancing protocols are helping to keep people safely apart, but the heartening community response to hunger in this pandemic is bringing us all together in powerful new ways.
Sincerely,
Your friends at Connecticut Food Bank
P.S. As we continue to respond to the ongoing pandemic, your kind support can help. Thank you for letting hungry families know they are not alone during this time of unprecedented crisis.

Gracie is one of these children. Her mom did everything she could to care for her and her two brothers, working two jobs and stretching every dollar. But when COVID-19 hit our community, mom lost both jobs. Now, keeping food on the table is an overwhelming challenge.
"I'm worried there won't be breakfast or lunch for my brothers and me," Gracie said. But with your help, there can be.

Dear Friend,
While we continue to provide food to our many neighbors in need, everyone at Connecticut Food Bank wants to take a few moments to say something important to you.
Thank you!
Thank you for stepping up and making a commitment to help feed people you've never met - the hungry individuals, families, children, seniors, veterans, and people who never needed our help before due to the economic fallout of COVID-19.
Thank you for the kind words of encouragement you've shared with us in handwritten notes, emails, and phone calls.
Thank you for telling your friends, neighbors, and coworkers about our shared mission and for asking them to join us in the fight against hunger.
In mid-March, Connecticut Food Bank experienced an unprecedented increase in the need for our services, a dramatic decrease in food donations, and scarcity in the food supply chain - requiring us to purchase food at a significant increase in cost. In recent weeks, we have increased our distribution by more than 20%, while the need for that food has grown by more than 40%.
Because of you, putting food on the table is one less worry for tens of thousands of Connecticut residents.
We are grateful for your gifts, support, and advocacy for our mission.

Connecticut Food Bank blazed a new trail this April with our inaugural Race Against Hunger. Faced with the challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic and social distancing requirements, we developed a new way to raise funds and maintain enthusiasm about our mission. Partnering with JB Sports, we were the first local Connecticut organization to offer a virtual Run/Walk experience.
The Race Against Hunger raised more than $100,000 to support our work in these challenging times. Thank you to the more than 800 participants, including many who shared their runs and walks on social media.

Dear
Friend,
Last week was unusual in Connecticut, and at Connecticut Food Bank. Not just for the dramatic growth in Coronavirus cases in our state, but for the remarkable show of support from donors, volunteers, and from our partner agencies.
Connecticut began the week with increased social distancing practices, and many people were unsure what that would mean for them. There were unprecedented job losses, more school closings, and rising concern among those who already struggle with hunger about their ability to keep enough food in their homes to shelter in place.
Those already in need will feel it first. As jobs are limited or lost, events are cancelled, and schools are closed down for the foreseeable future, more children and families will begin to experience hunger and will turn to us for help. The impact on our economy is expected to be significant.
Connecticut Food Bank leaned in to meet growing need because our donors stepped up, our volunteers and staff faithfully reported to work, and our partner agencies moved mountains to stay open to serve more people and to increase the amount of food they handle and distribute. In one week, we distributed 520,000 pounds of food, an increase of 120,000 pounds over our average weekly output.
The support of our donors will help to power the increased deliveries, food sourcing costs and warehouse operations that are required in this exceptional time. And our donors are coming through, at every level and from every community. We are grateful for their support.
Despite the challenges of operating in the current pandemic environment, we are on track to close March 2020 with a 100,000-pound increase over March of last year.
We don''t know what the weeks and months ahead will hold for our communities, but this week leaves us feeling surer about our ability to help neighbors in need. Keep up with us at www.ctfoodbank.org.
Sincerely,
Your friends at Connecticut Food Bank
