Daniel — we showed up in numbers this year, and we got things done.
A sea of red shirts took over state legislatures across the country, Congress, school board meetings, and more to advocate for gun safety this year. Moms Demand Action, Students Demand Action, and Everytown Survivor Network volunteers showed up to fight for an end to gun violence in 2019. We had some major victories to look back on and propel us forward — and have a lot of work left to do. And we can only keep this up with your support.Donate today and help this movement stay strong in the fight for a future free from gun violence.
Here's just some of what we accomplished this year:
We passed stronger gun laws in states with new Gun Sense Governors. Donate to support our work in state legislatures and beyond >>
In 2018, Moms Demand Action volunteers worked tirelessly to help elect governors who supported stronger gun laws. In Nevada and New Mexico, our volunteers fought for years for a law requiring background checks on all gun sales. This year, we won when newly elected Gun Sense Governors Steve Sisolak and Michelle Lujan Grisham signed background check laws with our volunteers by their side. In Illinois, Gun Sense Governor JB Pritzker signed a law to fight back against illegal gun trafficking.
Through multiple elections and legislative sessions, our volunteers have fought for gun safety, and we saw major progress in states after helping lead Gun Sense Governors to victory. We did this together, and we'll do more in 2020.
We stopped NRA priority bills in the states. Donate to strengthen our fight against the NRA >>
In 2019, we stopped more than 90 percent of NRA priority bills in state legislatures throughout the country. How did we stop dangerous, racist "Stand Your Ground" bills in Arkansas and Louisiana? By showing up to statehouses in our red shirts to urge lawmakers to put the safety of their constituents ahead of the NRA's extreme "guns everywhere" agenda.
We showed up and we stopped the gun lobby's priorities in West Virginia and Montana, in Missouri and Kansas, in Alabama and Nebraska — the list goes on. We will keep showing up in 2020 and your support helps us every step of the way.
We elected a Gun Sense Majority in Virginia. Donate to help us Get Out The Vote in 2020 >>
Right in the NRA's home state, we helped Gun Sense Candidates take control of Virginia's legislature. Our volunteers made more than 100,000 phone calls and knocked on tens of thousands of doors in order to vote out NRA-backed lawmakers and elect advocates for stronger gun laws. With your support, we're taking that momentum into 2020.
We rallied when the Senate refused to act. Donate to fuel our grassroots advocacy in Congress and beyond >>
When tragedy hit yet again this August, after mass shootings brought loss, pain and grief to communities in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio, we knew we had to act. Our movement contacted their U.S. Senators over 200,000 times during the Senate's August Recess demanding it pass background checks on all gun sales and a strong red flag law. Then, in a show of strength and passion, thousands of us rallied in all 50 states and Washington D.C. calling on our senators to stop senseless gun violence.
The Gun Sense Majority in the U.S. House passed four landmark pieces of legislation, including background checks on all gun sales, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell still hasn't taken the necessary action to save lives. We're not stopping and we're ready to show up for stronger gun laws in 2020.
Together, we are a grassroots movement that will build on what we did this year to make ever greater progress next year. Contribute to our grassroots movement today and, we promise, your support will propel our fight for gun safety forward.
Thank you for all you do,
