2020 Holidays Now Available for Booking!

The wait is over, our 2020 holidays are now live and open for bookings. You can find the full list of our holidays, including dates and prices on our website.

Read on for more information to help you choose and book your holiday including hearing from Penny Bell who has been on three supported holidays with her Mum, Rosemary.  You can also read about our holidays from the perspective of one of our fabulous volunteers - Martin.

If you are a family carer supporting someone with dementia you might be interested in our FREE Family Carers events around the UK. We now offer online events too. See more below.

Each month we use this newsletter to keep you up to date with our work and how you can get involved.  We also include information about how you can fundraise and donate. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking on 'unsubscribe' at the bottom of the newsletter or you can click here.
SUPPORTED DEMENTIA HOLIDAYS

If you or someone you love is living with dementia you may feel that holidays are no longer an option. Perhaps, traditional models of respite that separate families don’t appeal to you. We may have the answer. We offer small group, supported holidays for people with dementia and their partners, family, friends or carers to enjoy together.

Our trained team and expertly planned itineraries mean that you can have the holiday you have been hoping for. Whether you want to relax by the coast or walk up mountains, we have something for everyone— please take a look at our holidays for 2020. We welcome people with all types of dementia and can arrange personal care if necessary. Read more about our holidays here.

BESPOKE HOLIDAYS:
If a small group holiday is not for you, perhaps you might like a bespoke holiday? Ideal for groups of friends or families who want to travel together—please contact us for more information.

FINANCE:
We don't want money to be a reason for people not to have a holiday. We fundraise to reduce the price we charge for holidays to make them more affordable.  The price we charge you is less than half the full cost. If you would like to make an additional donation towards our holiday programme to make a holiday possible for somebody who otherwise might not afford it, please let us know when you book. The listed price includes the charitable subsidy applied to your first holiday each calendar year.

There are other ways to access funds to make your holiday happen, especially if you are on a means tested benefit. Read our guide to financial assistance for more information.

NEW DESTINATION FOR 2020:

This year our destinations include trusted some favourites such as the Isle of Wight, Lake District, Norfolk, Devon and Cornwall. We're also excited to announce a brand new holiday for this year in the beautiful Peak District in Derbyshire.
“Though she may not remember the details of the holiday, it has given mum a boost. With all the tips given, I have renewed energy to find the right kind of additional support for mum so she can continue living at home for as long as possible.”
PENNY & ROSEMARY
HAVE A DEMENTIA ADVENTURE

Penny and Rosemary have been on three of our supported holidays, in the Isle of Wight, Devon and Norfolk. We spoke to Penny to hear her experience of caring for her Mum and how having a dementia adventure has made a difference to them both. Read More

A VOLUNTEERS PERSPECTIVE

Before his partial retirement Dr Martin Brown was a Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist. Martin is one of our outstanding holidays volunteers. He supports people living with dementia and their carer to have the holiday they always hoped for. His clinical background gives him unique insights into our supported holidays. In this article, Martin shares his experiences of the holidays and how he has benefitted as a volunteer. Read More

"For me, it was great to be with other people who really understood the dementia experience, in particular, the other carers on the trip. We were able to exchange tips and share knowledge."

Our holidays are made possible by the players of the postcode lottery, who underwrite the cost of our holidays, allowing more people access to the outdoors in a meaningful way.

Do you want to know more about how to support someone living with dementia?

We are running a series of Family Carer Events around the UK. These free events are designed for family carers, informal carers or others supporting people living with dementia.

We provide information to help people to ‘think differently about dementia’ and to:

- Understand dementia and the common symptoms
- Continue to see the person (not the condition)
- Receive strategies to overcome communication barriers
- Learn how to connect with loved ones using practical tips
- Learn the benefits of contact with nature and the outdoors
- Network with local support organisations and other family carers
- Have the opportunity to ask individual questions and receive a copy of our helpful information pack.

RAISE MONEY:

As a charity we depend on people like you. Your support helps us reduce the cost of our supported dementia holidays, and could make a holiday possible for someone who could not otherwise afford it. Your support also helps to provide free training for family carers and enables us to do research into the benefits of being outdoors. Every pound raised makes a massive difference to the lives of people with dementia in the UK.

Whether you want to do your own fundraising or you would like to take part in an organised event, we can’t wait to hear from you!

We’ll help you with materials, ideas and lots of ways to make the most of your fundraising. We can give you fundraising ideas, tips on how to plan your event and make sure you have the support and resources you need.
