When a shooter murdered three people and wounded 17 at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in California several weeks ago, people immediately wondered why.
Then an Instagram post from the shooter was uncovered that provided an important clue. The shooter urged people to read Might Is Right, which turned out to be a vile manifesto promoting Social Darwinism.
Denouncing the idea that “All men are created equal” as “an infernal Lie,” the manifesto’s author repeatedly cited Darwin and then declared: “Let there be no compromise… as Darwin commands, let the strongest live, and the vilest die.”
The Gilroy shooter was presumably mentally ill. But it’s not only the mentally ill who are being infected by the Darwinian worldview. Renowned biologist James Watson won the Nobel Prize for his role discovering the structure of DNA. Earlier this year, he was in the news because of his sickening belief that Darwinian evolution has made Africans biologically inferior to whites.
Make no mistake, Darwinism has real-world consequences. That’s why those of us at Discovery Institute are so committed to challenging Darwinism with an alternative that offers hope: The idea that all human beings are valuable because we reflect exquisite intelligent design.
We need you alongside us to offer hope to young people.
This summer we released Science Uprising, a series of YouTube videos that distill the evidence from science for intelligent design and human dignity. Thus far the series has attracted 700,000+ views and generated more than 7,000 comments, including:
- “I’m absolutely blown away.”
- “I love these videos.”
- “These videos are really amazing.”
- “Wish I had these in college!”
- “Awesome! This makes the information more accessible than long lectures with indecipherable words.”
Discovery Institute doesn’t have a huge megaphone. We can’t rely on government support, or support from the establishment media. We rely instead on people like you—people who want to provide a positive alternative to the vision of despair offered by Darwinism.
Can you donate right now and help us reach 1 million views for Science Uprising by the end of 2019?
Even $50 or $100 will enable us reach hundreds of additional of people through strategic advertising on YouTube, Facebook, and similar platforms.
Together we can make a difference.
