During colder and rainier months, your dog might spend more time indoors. Enrichment games, like a snuffle mat, are a great way to keep dogs happy and occupied between walks. All you need to do is hide some tasty treats in the mat for your dog to sniff out.

Autumn is filled with fun celebrations like Halloween and Firework Night. They can be a lot spookier for our dogs though, particularly if they're scared of loud noises.

Preparing early can make a big difference to how your dog feels on the night. Our sound therapy will help you gradually expose your dog to loud noises over the next few weeks. This will help them to cope better with any pops, fizzes and bangs.

Last week our contact centre answered its two-millionth call. We set up the contact centre in 2014. Now we have a team of 65 handling 1,500 calls every day.

Most calls we receive are about rehoming a dog. So it was no surprise that our two-millionth call was from a dog-lover hoping to give a forever home to 13-year-old Jack Russell, Bella. During lockdown, we've seen a huge increase in calls. Some of our dogs have received over 1,000 enquiries.

Local lockdowns and national restrictions mean stricter social distancing rules for lots of people. For your dog, this may mean more time indoors and less exciting routes for walkies.

Making your walks as fun as possible helps keep your dog happy, even if they have to spend more time indoors. From long lead training to scent trails, there are lots of ways you can spice up walks.

Long-term Lurcher finds home in lockdown

Boomer has finally found his forever home after 300 days in our care at Ilfracombe. Some dogs like Boomer need quite specific homes, so it can take a while to find the right match.

The support from players of People''s Postcode Lottery means our specialist Canine Carers can give dogs like him the care they need for as long as it takes. We''re so grateful to everyone who plays. Thanks to you we can help more dogs like Boomer.

October means the start of Free Wills Month campaign. If you''re 55+, you can get a simple will made or updated for free at participating solicitors. Wills can be expensive and it''s easy to put it off. But knowing loved ones will be cared for, including those with four paws, can be reassuring.

Free Wills Month also allows you to leave a gift for your chosen charities. We receive around a third of our income from wills, which helps us build a brighter future for all dogs.

13-year-old Joe was found wandering the streets as lockdown eased. He must''ve felt so lonely and scared. Luckily, we were there to step in and offer the care he needed.

But sadly, we're seeing more dog's lives turned upside down by this pandemic. We predict that up to 40,000 dogs, like Joe, could become stray or abandoned in the aftermath of Covid-19.

We're working hard to adapt our services. But as the nation's financial crisis grows, we'll be called on to help more and more dogs. And we can't do it without your help.

No puppy should be born to be smuggled. Not at Christmas. Not ever.

Our new animation tells the story of a puppy, imported into the country illegally to meet the demand in the UK. Thousands of smuggled pups are sold online each year to unsuspecting dog lovers.

We need your help to change the tale for smuggled puppies and be there for the dogs who need us most.

Picture the scene. It's Christmas Eve and a family argument breaks out over a ''friendly'' game of charades. All is rectified when Dad brings out the homemade gingerbread. Christmas treats have a magical quality; they bring joy and happiness to all that eat them.

This year has had us all dreaming about going on a summer holiday, with no more working-from-home for a week or two. The sun may have gone into hiding, but the crisp frost and crunchy leaves of wintertime are just as enticing.

2020 has been challenging for Louisa and her dog Matilda. Louisa lost her job and her home due to the pandemic. Then Matilda needed urgent, complex surgery. Thankfully, Louisa found our Hope Project, which supports dog owners experiencing homelessness or in housing crisis. We registered Matilda on our vet scheme to access free vet care, so Louisa could focus on getting her and Matilda the support they needed.

Christmas can be especially difficult for people experiencing homelessness. That''s why we send parcels of Christmas goodies to dogs just like Matilda every year. This Christmas, we''ll be sending out more than 1,500 festive hampers.
