Doubling your impact is referring to the opportunity for a nonprofit to raise twice as much toward a particular campaign with what is called a matching grant.

A matching grant is a charitable practice whereby a major donor or group of donors offers to match donations given to an organization up to an agreed amount. The amount of money given to the organization is determined by how much is given by other donors in response to the matching gift and is usually valid for a specific period of time.

In other words, if your officers are spending a significant amount of time with donors who don't have the capacity to move the needle to achieve your organizational goals, you may need to re-evaluate which donors should be in portfolio.

When it comes to donor research, wealth screening can be pretty overwhelming. Let's look at some key elements and see exactly what this data is (and isn't) telling us.

What is the data telling us?

First, wealth screening will give you basic information on a donor - age, marital status, residences over the past few decades, and so on. Now, almost all third-party vendors will admit to being around 60 to 80 percent accurate in the data that you're receiving, leaving room for error. However, this data allows you to point the arrow in the right direction and start moving forward. Then, you can refine the information once you're in a one-on-one relationship with that donor.

I vividly remember the first time I did online church with Community Bible Church 12 years ago. We gathered as an executive team and decided to upload our worship service. It was a Tuesday, but we took a recording of our Sunday service, updated our Facebook status, and watched with anticipation to see who would join.
