I hope you are safe and well. I still can''t believe the rollercoaster that 2020 has been. At its start, I couldn''t ever have imagined my family would Lose a Loved One to Coronavirus as well as go into that thing called "quarantine." What happened?! 

Staying current with food and health has been important to me for decades, since I founded my first company Ecosav, Elana''s Pantry is my second start-up.

So last week I wrote about health and equality on the blog. You, my readers, expressed a very wide variety of views. Much of the comments were positive and supportive, however, others were very painful to read.

This week, I''m diving a bit deeper and want to thank you for your feedback, which as always, guides me.

I have a confession, I had not heard of Juneteenth until recently when I was flipping through the newspaper. A stunning photo of Strawberry Slab Pie captured my attention, along with a reference to this holiday.

I knew at once that this was the perfect opportunity to write about two of my passions --food and history, and also to continue my work to Lift Black Voices.

But as a mother, sister, and daughter, I believe we can come together right now and continue our work to move forward and heal ourselves and our communities, and take a conscious step to include all voices and protect all children young and old.

I hope you and yours are well as we approach Memorial Day.

Looking back a year ago, who would''ve thought we''d be in such an odd and sad state of affairs with the world shutting down and the loss of our loved ones. 

Still, I have so much to be grateful for in this brave new world. We''ve had my two college-age boys staying with us, a tremendous blessing.

Having the boys home is very grounding, and so is baking. This weekend we''ll be making my Low-Carb Strawberry Shortcake, a classic summertime dessert. And I may also throw together a couple of Keto Margaritas. 

Meanwhile, we''ll be honoring the brave ones who have given their lives for our liberty and freedom, for everything that has made our country great. That is what Memorial Day is truly about for us.
