Wednesday 29th January - Fringe World
(2 SHOWS)
6:45pm: Pink Mancini with Ali Bodycoat, Libby Hammer and Rob Pring
Boy, Girl and Other Girl are back with another adventure of love, lies and intrigue, all wrapped up in a seemingly innocent music concert. Henry Mancini was one of the greatest film composers of all time, and his songs have brought us some of the world’s most classic and romantic melodies as well as film’s most well-known crime themes. Tonight, Mancini’s biggest hits – Peter Gunn, Baby Elephant Walk, The Pink Panther and Moon River among others – will weave a dramatic, mysterious and sometimes hilarious story into the beautiful harmonies of vocalists Ali Bodycoat, Libby Hammer and Rob Pring and their swinging 5-piece band of merry accomplices. Order yourself a martini and see if you can be the first to figure out – Whodunit?

10pm: Fairly Average Dance Band: Where Average Happens
Winners of the 2017 FRINGE WORLD Music and Musicals Award, The Fairly Average Dance Band are back with more nostalgia, nonsense, and total bangers from the 80s, 90s and 00s. Think Venga Boys with added tuba, Britney with much more testosterone and Love Shack with 100% more piano accordion than you’ve heard it with before (unless you came to the last show, in which case it will be exactly the same, just slightly more disappointing). So if you, like us, have had a lifetime of questionable decision making, why not make just one more poor choice and come party with us. Expect another decidedly average evening: a power set of mediocre fashion, genuinely terrible dance moves and more cowbell than anyone expects or needs. It’s like magic. But much worse.

Listen to a ballsy blend of funk, hip hop, jazz and the contagious, dance-inducing, street-brass sound that is steeped in hundreds of years of tradition. From Etta James’ ‘I Just Want To Make Love To You’ and The Dream Girls’ ‘Love You I Do’ to Britney Spears’ ‘Toxic’ and Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella,’ there is sure to be a song for everyone! 5pm: Femme Fertile - Anna-Kat
Anna-Kat has given birth to her first World Premiere: Femme Fertile. So hold onto your ovaries peoples, ’cause this cow is jumping right into your moon cups… When 12.3% of the top pop songs are written by XX chromosome carriers, this Femme Fertile is on a mission to celebrate what makes the Femme so mystique. One Voice. Many stories. One piano. Two shows. All original songs. So free them nipples and rattle them dags cause this Witch of East (Bruns)wick is riding that feminist fourth wave right up to the sunny shores of Perth and into the Ellington’s glittery lair. Think Regina Spektor meets Tim Minchin. Pap smears meet male doctors. Planeteers meet your average Joe-(lene).

Monday 3rd February - Fringe World
(2 SHOWS)
7pm: Lucky Oceans and Jessie Gordon: The Western Swing Hour
Grammy award winning legend Lucky Oceans and FRINGE WORLD veteran Jessie Gordon bring you a night of joyful, exuberant Western Swing with a dash of soul searching sorrow. Born in the heart of Texas, burnished in the heat of Australia’s own West, this music is the nexus where country meets hot jazz, fuelled by the driving rhythm of double bass and an energetic, chaotic approach to melody and harmony with Lucky and virtuoso Jon Matthews on guitars. Joining the band in paying tribute to the likes of Bob Wills and Spade Cooley, Jessie sings and plays the ukulele with reckless abandon, the band rolling like a steam train through the quiet Perth night!

8:30pm: Queer Jazz with Jessie Gordon and Adrian Galante
If you like jazz, you probably like queer jazz. You may not know it, but there is a long and illustrious list of queer jazz singers, composers and lyricists. From the out and proud Bessie Smith to the closeted Lorenz Hart, some of the most well known jazz and blues standards have been touched by the fabulous flourish of queerness. Jessie Gordon and Adrian Galante take you on a gay romp through the devastating wit of Cole Porter to the earthy and explicit stylings of Lucille Bogan and Ma Rainey. From the heartbreaking beauty of Hart’s ‘Where or When’ to Billy Strayhorn’s celebratory ‘Take the A Train’, from Billie Holiday to Carmen McCrae, from Alberta Hunter to Josephine Baker, there’s something for everyone in this exploration of all that is jazz, gay, lesbian, bi and ultimately queer.
