We urge you to join our growing community of Citizen-Consumers and raise your voice as we work toward building a better food system, one that works for farmers, the planet, cooperative businesses like Equal Exchange, and you. Join us by taking this action step today!
We are writing to ask you to take a simple but important step to help put the brakes on corporate mergers that are driving family farmers and independent stores and organizations like Equal Exchange out of business.
Thank you to the hundreds of you who have already done this! Now we need to double the number so for those who have yet to take the step, we need you.
Please click here to ask your U.S. Representative and Senators to co-sponsor a bill to halt mega-mergers in the agribusiness and grocery industries.
Why? Huge corporations in seeds, livestock, dairy, agriculture and grocery are consolidating at a pace that threatens the survival of thousands of independent farmers and businesses, and with it, the viability of many communities across the country. More information can be found here.
The Food and Agribusiness Merger Moratorium and Antitrust Review Act of 2019 has been filed in the Senate (S. 1596) by Sen. Cory Booker and Sen. Jon Tester, and in the House (H.R. 2933) by Rep. Mark Pocan and Rep. Chellie Pingree. They need our help in pressing their colleagues to add their voices to those seeking a moratorium on these mergers in order to assess the damage they are causing and recommend a path forward.
Equal Exchange has enthusiastically joined allies such as the Organization for Competitive Markets and Friends of the Earth to engage our representatives on this critical issue.
Thank you for taking a minute to contact your representative and senators.
