In our sector, there''s one question on everyone''s mind. When will mass-participation sport return? To help answer this question, we''re opening our digital doors and sharing our site traffic to allow race organisers to see data that will provide insights including:

How many people are actively looking for events on findarace.com? Are people just looking for events, or also booking? How far in the future are people booking events for?

Spoiler alert: not many people are looking for events right now. Our site traffic is 25% of what it would normally be this time of year. But over the next few months we''ll keep this dashboard open and provide regular updates with top level insights to keep you up-to-date with the latest trends.

We also hope to add data from other sources. Let us know if you would like to partner or if there''s any more detailed data you''d like to see, such as levels of interest for specific distances.

This is the first of a few initiatives we have been working on at findarace.com to help Race Organisers and others in the Mass Participation sector. More to follow shortly.

Your Mountain is Waiting

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the July challenges. 1,000 of you ran, walked and cycled your way to unfettered glory. From first-timers doing a 5k, to friends teaming up to take on 2500k, success was everywhere. Medals will be on their way to you in the first week of August.

This month the Club is supporting the National Literacy Trust. The lockdown has had a disproportionately negative impact on children from poorer backgrounds. The National Literacy Trust is working to support these children when they return to school this September after months of disrupted learning. 

What''s more, August''s medal is a belter. Finished in light powder grey and featuring a quote from children''s author, Dr Seuss, to act as constant reminder to keep climbing those mountains.
 

P.S. Following last week''s announcements from the DCMS and National Governing Bodies, real mass-participation events will be making a very welcome return over the coming months. We''ll be in touch next week with more information and a survey to gauge everyone''s feelings towards participation.

Plan B, Act 2:
Compete or Collaborate

The response to the original Plan B was incredible. 3,500 people from all corners of the globe took part, helping raise more than ?25,000 for the W.H.O.''s Coronavirus Solidarity Fund. 

Now it''s time for the next challenge, the slightly pretentiously named ''Act 2''. In this follow-up, there''s a new medal ?? and all the same goals are available; 5k, 10k, etc. To add a little more edge, there are also options to either Compete or Collaborate. Invite friends and family to get involved and you''ll have instant motivation to get out the door.

We''ll continue to raise funds for The W.H.O. to develop a COVID-19 vaccine, which seems the only path to getting us safely back out running together.

So what''s it going to be? Compete or Collaborate?

So you''ve spent the last few weeks and months training hard and counting down the days to race day. Then along came Coronavirus and everything changed. If you're anything like us, you'll have spent a while feeling bummed about it. Then you might start wondering if there's anything you can do to make the most of the situation.

It feels like right now, keeping active is as hard as it''s ever been, and just as important. Regularly carving out time to get even a quick run in is tough. Motivation is the key and while running events are still off the agenda, we''ve created a new Challenge Club to keep the energy flowing.

But it won''t be easy! Success will require commitment over 30 days. Alarms will need to be set. There will be a considerable amount of sweating. Occasional grunting also. Less time will be spent on the sofa. Easy options will have to be ignored and at times you''ll need to have a few strong words with yourself.

But it''s not all bad. With regular exercise, sleep will be easier to come by. Food will taste better, even vegetables. Good socks will be appreciated as never before. And at the end of the 30 days, you will get an overwhelming sense of satisfaction. And a really nice medal.

If that sounds like a good deal, welcome to the club.

Final Call: August Challenges

The August edition of the Challenge Club medal is proving popular. We're down to the last 50 entries before the Dr Seuss edition of the medal sells out. So seize the moment, for as the good doctor says, today is your day.
 

Locked Down, but not out.

It''s fair to say this wasn''t the plan. Running events were back on and we thought virtual races were done for the year. But as we know, 2020 laughs at ''plans''.

So here we go again! Lockdown 2.0 has a very different feel to it than the first Lockdown. No heatwave and no homeschooling for a start.

But one thing''s the same - whatever the ups and downs of the next few weeks, a run will make it better. If you can just find the will to pull on the running shoes and get out the door, the rest is easy. The body will move, endorphins will flow and life will be better.

So (virtually) grab your friends or go solo, pick a challenge from 5k to 500k and let''s get going.
 

This weekend we were in West London for the findarace.com Kew Gardens 10k. After months without any races, it was exhilarating to feel the buzz of a real-life event. Sorry virtual events, but you don''t come close. Congratulations to everyone who took part.

With the major city races off the menu for the time-being, it''s likely Kew will be about as big a race as can be held currently. For runners, this means finding alternative goals to keep motivated.

Despite some confusion over this week''s Government guidelines, running, triathlon and cycling events are still very much open for business. From what we''re seeing, confidence in taking part in events is returning (see our traffic). Even parkrun''s announced its return next month. ??

Over the coming months, at findarace.com you'll continue to find thousands of lesser-known, safe and enjoyable events taking place on your doorstep.
 

Interest is Rising

Those people are using findarace.com to help identify races that are likely to go ahead this summer and autumn. We don''t know what the restrictions will be, but we do know that people are doing their research now, shortlisting events that they would like to take part in if it''s possible to do so. 

Over the next few weeks we''ll be adding tags to events so they can easily find those that are planning to take place, those that offer free race transfers, and those that have additional safety measures in place. All of those factors reassure people and encourage bookings. If they apply to your events, let us know.

Race Organiser 2 minute Survey

Over the last couple of weeks, it''s become clearer than ever that our sector is going to be impacted by Coronavirus for longer than most. Although some mass-participation events may return in some form over the next few months, many won't return in anything like their usual format for a lot longer.

That being the case, we thought now would be a good time to see how we could help Race Organisers like you through the next few months. After spending a while talking through the options internally, we realised the best thing would be to just ask you.

So here's a short (2 minute max) survey outlining a few possible ways we could help. At this stage, everything is on the table so we'd welcome thoughts that are not amongst the suggestions.

Of course, supporting Race Organisers isn''t a purely selfless act on our part. Our success relies on yours. But it seems to us the best course out of this is a shared one.
