Dear Friends of Food Rescue US:
As we look back on the past eight months and the impact COVID-19 has had on our health, economy, and the overall well-being of America, we are in awe of the many people who have stepped-up to help their fellow citizens. As we look forward, it sadly seems certain that we will be fighting the consequences of the pandemic well into 2021 and beyond.
Our focus at Food Rescue US is food insecurity and food waste, both major crises before COVID-19. Due to the impact of the pandemic, many are still left unemployed and hundreds of thousands of people are facing food insecurity for the first time. Our work is more important than ever.
Our concern for the significant impact of food waste on our environment has not been diminished and we are heartened to know that so many people realize that we can’t ignore a warming planet, even during a pandemic.
With your support during the pandemic, we have been able to:
-
Provide 8.2 million meals
-
Keep 9.8 million pounds of excess food out of landfills
-
Open 18 Community Kitchens
-
Distribute 125,000 meals through our Restaurant Meal Programs
-
Distribute 7.5 million pounds of produce through our Farm Distribution Program, including partnering with the USDA on their Farmers to Families produce box distributions
We are grateful to the thousands of volunteer food rescuers, food donors, social service agency partners, and financial donors that have supported this work, all who understand it makes so much sense to divert excess food from landfills for a better purpose, feeding the food insecure. Together we are making a difference. Thank you!
Your donation allows us to continue to provide meals, recover and distribute fresh food, open Community Kitchens, and ensure that all excess food is rescued and provided to those in need.
If you are able, please consider making a donation to Food Rescue US. Every dollar makes a difference.
All the best,
Carol, Melissa, Jen, Alena, Bethany, and Victoria
