Dear Friends of Foothills Art Center,
Our mission at Foothills Art Center is "inspiring and engaging the community through arts, education, and a creative exchange of ideas." You've seen us discuss social issues in our exhibitions and programming, and we'll look forward to creating more dialogue with our fall exhibition. "False Choice" opens August 28 and examines issues of identity, race, and questioning our assumptions. How can we be less certain of our personal views and more intellectually humble about what we know and understand? Are we willing to challenge our assumptions and expose ourselves to differing perspectives? We'll look forward to having these conversations with you as it pertains to our current events.
Our staff and organization condemn racism, inequality, and violence. We know these conversations are tough, and as a staff, we are working to understand each other's views and educate ourselves on the issues. We stand in solidarity with those who support policies and actions that create equality and justice for all who are marginalized in our communities.
Throughout history, artists have responded in times of political and social crisis to confront uncomfortable questions, and to examine blind spots. However, art alone can't fight systemic racism. As a society, we have a responsibility to listen and to learn in our efforts to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion. At FAC we are here for you, we're with you, and we're listening. We value open dialogue, and we look forward to hearing from you.
