It's been 13 years since Dan and I founded French Broad Chocolate, and my love for chocolate and adoration for Asheville only grows. Our chocolate - and I - have changed a lot over those years, starting as a tiny chocolatier using other people's chocolate to make bonbons, to being an entirely bean-to-bar company, with a team of 100 people making awesome chocolate, sourced with integrity, crafted with love, and served with gratitude.

Cacao Bisiesto in Nicaragua is one of our principal cacao producers. "Bisiesto" means leap year in Spanish, which is the day on which they were founded, eight years ago! This delicious, direct-sourced cacao is featured in all the frogs' shells.
The colorful, hand painted designs were inspired by the dart frogs in the jungles of Nicaragua and Costa Rica, the source of a lot of our cacao.

Oh, Oh, Oh It''s Magic Bars
? ? ?A classic retro Midwestern bar recipe, found at every church potluck ever. The recipe is not fancy or complicated (I believe it was introduced on the can of condensed milk), but you'll make it fancy with our chocolate chips.
1/2 cup melted butter
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs (about 20 graham crackers)
14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup dark chocolate chips
1 cup salted caramel white chocolate chips
1 1/3 cups flaked coconut
1 cup chopped pecans
Grease a 9x13 baking pan and preheat oven to 350.?Combine graham cracker crumbs and butter and press into prepared pan.
Pour condensed milk over the crust layer.?
Layer chocolate chips, caramel chips, coconut and nuts over the top and press into crust
Bake 25 minutes or until lightly browned.
Cool bars. Say things like "you betcha" and "dontcha know" and "Uff da" while devouring finished bars with your closest homies.

Before Corona, I was already juggling raising two teenagers with trying to run and grow a small business. Now I''m doing that without them having school or activities to keep them engaged. Sure, they have online assignments, but I am not able to devote the time to be their classroom monitor. Cue the mom guilt!
