Soren Rose’s design for this Park Avenue Penthouse is unforgettable.
No images? Click here ![]() ![]() STEP INSIDE THIS NEW YORK APARTMENTSoren Rose’s design for this Park Avenue Penthouse is unforgettable. The 6,000 square foot Gramercy residence combines traditional Scandinavian design with industrial and cotemporary New York. With remarkable elements like a dark verde alpi marble wall sourced from the same quarry that Mies Van der Rohe got his marble from for Bracelona Pavilion, this project is thoughtful to the core. It bridges past to present with easy elegance and reflects a deep appreciation for context and detail. The Egg™ chair by Arne Jacobsen is a staple of Danish design with organic curves that take on different ethos in every leather, fabric and colour. It is recognized worldwide as an essential modern design, one of the triumphs of Jacobsen’s legendary career, and a technical achievement in craftsmanship. Photography features the Swan™ sofa and Egg™ chair from Fritz Hansen. ![]() THE SWAN™ The Swan Sofa™ and Swan™ chair were designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1958 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. Copenhagen Fashion Week opens with Fritz Hansen Seating
No images? Click here ![]() ![]() SEASONLESS STYLE: ‘THE WALK’ by CARCELA week before CARCEL’s opening show, founder Veronica d'Souza spoke to Fritz Hansen about the company’s journey and what customers can continue to expect from the brand's designs. Our conversation with the brand began with timeless design, as we provided seating for their first runway show. CARCEL is a fashion company that dares to value craftsmanship and operates according to its own high standards. It designs are timeless and seasonless, made from natural materials that are local to its production centres. CARCEL owns its own machines and employs women in a Peruvian and Thai prison, overseeing its supply chain and production. There isn’t a detail too small to ignore, and this year they were selected to open Copenhagen Fashion Week with a focus on sustainability. Veronica believes the brand’s ‘slow fashion’ approach is what sets it apart. The days of ignoring workers’ realities and the climate crisis are over.

![]() MARK TAN ON GOOD DESIGN The Copenhagen-based fashion designer Mark Kenly Domino Tan talks about what constitutes good design. What is ‘good’ design? Many have attempted to answer this question, but not Mark Tan. “It’s dangerous to be the judge of what constitutes good design. Good design is subjective, so you can’t judge or quantify its virtue. It doesn’t really serve a purpose to divide design into good and bad, as all design is, in some way, useful or meaningful to someone.”

Click here ![]() INSPIRATION FURNITURE LIGHTING ACCESSORIES FIND STORE ![]() MADE WITH CAREWith two artist parents, Cecilie Manz encountered the world of design in early childhood in their workshop. Her own career began in 1992 with an academic education from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Following a semester abroad at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, Manz started her own company, which has been the focus of her work ever since. She has produced a number of furniture, accessory and lighting designs exclusively for Fritz Hansen, through a collaboration which began in 2009. ![]() ‘It was important to me that the rugs could go with Fritz Hansen''s more classic pieces as well as the contemporary collection. The large, calm carpet in colourless tones creates a quiet space together with a couple of poufs or an iconic chair. The small carpets with intense colour do well alone, like a colour spill on the floor,’ says Manz. ![]() Cecilie Manz approached the assignment of doing rugs like she approaches a composition on canvas; outlined concepts as collages with paper, before the ideas were transformed to warm, wool material with tactility. ‘I love working with colours. It feels almost healthy because it’s connected to joy. Nevertheless, I often end up using hues of greys and very down-toned nuances you would find in nature during autumn/winter, or at sea. But living only in pale tones would be horrible to me. You need some stronger tones here and there.’ ![]() ‘With these rugs, the woollen textile material is perfect for deep, intense colour tones. It has depth and rich variation to it. Various tufting heights within each design make these rugs subtly three dimensional and tactually interesting. Each rug is handtufted in India and coloured with acid-free dye. Proceeds from cc-tapis production support children’s education in Nepal.
