Animals are developing their thicker winter coat and the amount of grass in the field is limited. What's more, many electric fences lose voltage in the winter due to issues with ice and snow. To prevent animals breaking out and going to look for food elsewhere, it is essential that your fence is in good condition for the winter months! Here's how to conduct a winter check for your fencing:

1. Trees and vegetation: take a walk around your fence in autumn, to make sure there are no large branches or piles of leaves up against the fence
   
   
2. Now is the time for permanent repairs: any quick fixes you needed to make in the summer are best solved permanently before winter begins
   
   
3. Organise all your fencing materials: make sure you always have enough to be able to make repairs
   
   
4. Use switches: switches can provide a solution in areas prone to a lot of snow; after heavy snowfall, the lower wire can be switched off while the rest of the fence works normally
