Learning to Love Yourself
At Girls on the Run, we believe in the power of extending love to others. Whether through our research-based curriculum lessons or the Community Impact Projects girls complete during each season, we weave love into every aspect of Girls on the Run.
What better time to celebrate love than today? However, love extends far beyond greeting cards, teddy bears, roses and chocolates. Loving others starts with loving yourself, and to love yourself, you first need to learn how to like yourself.
Liking yourself can take many different forms, but spending time alone can be one of the most powerful tools along the journey to self-love. Do you cherish hanging out with yourself, or does it intimidate you to go for a solo walk or eat alone in public? Your attitude toward alone time has a significant impact on the girls in your life. Friendship and community are so important as a girl grows up, but so is teaching them to be one of their own best friends.
In addition to increased self-confidence, learning to love herself by taking time to connect with who she is will also result in greater self-awareness, better friendships, and the ability to care for herself and others.
Despite the challenges girls will face as they transition into adulthood, learning to love themselves at a young age will help them reduce self-doubt and handle tough situations with confidence and grace.
