We unveiled this new vision last month with President Halimah Yacob who shared, "Building a City of Good is not only the responsibility of a select few, but a duty we all share. It is about building a Singapore all of us aspire towards, and it is something we must do together."

The City of Good Show: Saving Our Charities is happening tonight!

Join us on NVPC - Towards a City of Good''s Facebook Live for our first ever livestream fundraiser "The City of Good Show: Saving Our Charities" at 8pm! See you there!

In light of Covid-19, some of our charities have been facing a decline in donations. The City of Good Show brings together a group of comedians with heart to fundraise and entertain you and your loved ones, in support of charities on Giving.sg.

Would you like to know more about the comedians?

Meet Dr Chan Yeow. He is one of the inspiring frontline health workers who is responding to COVID-19.  Aside from being an anaesthesiologist and intensivist, he is Director of the Home Ventilation and Respiratory Support Service (HVRSS) at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH).

In mid-February, Dr Chan worked in the COVID ICU as one of the Intensive Care Consultants. He led a team of junior doctors, nurses and therapists to make clinical decisions. "Surprisingly, morale was high at the time. Although we were scared, we knew we had to do our best and protect one another," Dr Chan shared.  He now looks after patients who have been discharged from the hospital but still need breathing machines. "We are racing against time to make sure our vent-users and families are safe," Dr Chan emphasised. Most of these patients have a neuromuscular breathing weakness, whilst a smaller number have severe lung disease.

Together with his team, he is intensifying family training through a Home Vent app and educational YouTube videos. Sometimes, Dr Chan would feel conflicted balancing his responsibilities to his patients at home and in the ICU. He is also concerned about social isolation experienced by his parents. Nevertheless he is grateful for his wife''s support as she juggles their domestic concerns and her career. Dr Chan stays motivated through the shared sense of mission among his colleagues, his faith in God and the support from patients and their families. "TTSH is my family away from home and the ventilation users are like a special community!" Dr Chan quipped.

TTSH Community Fund also actively supports needy patients across various medical conditions. It's TTSH Community Fund's 25th anniversary! As part of SG United, TTSH Community Fund is rallying support for its Help Me Go Home programme, which provides needy patients with much-needed breathing machines and related consumables.

Declining birth rates and increased life expectancies have led to rapidly ageing populations in countries around the world. Singapore is not exempt from this. Today, around 1 in 7 Singaporeans are aged 65 and above. By 2030, this number would have risen to 1 in 5, positioning Singapore as a "superaged" country alongside the likes of Japan, Germany and Italy, among others.
 

We can do our part to ensure a good quality of life for our silver generation ????

During this circuit breaker period, it is important to limit the spread of COVID-19 and not put anyone else at risk. Still, it is possible to help others and support the causes that you care about from the comfort of your home!

How To Do Good Remotely

Samaritans Of Singapore (SOS) is looking for more volunteers to lend a listening ear to distressed callers, especially during the night. Their 24-hour hotline has seen a large increase in the number of calls made in this time of COVID-19. Callers expressed their anxieties, both for themselves and their loved ones. 

Filos Community Services is recruiting telephone befriending volunteers for their Community Befriending Programme (CBP). This befriending programme re-engages socially isolated elderly with community and links them to services they may require. 

Domestic violence seems to be on the rise during the COVID-19 outbreak. In March, AWARE received 619 calls - the most ever in one month. Help ensure AWARE can provide more counselling sessions, trainings and helpline calls, as well as expand their programmes and research. 

Support Retrenched Workers
And Their Families

Earlier this year, it was predicted that the Covid-19 pandemic could lead to 150,000 to 200,000 retrenchments. This will be the highest number of retrenchments in Singapore's history since independence. So far, retrenchments have more than doubled in the second quarter of this year. 

With that in mind, we''d like to highlight how you can make a huge difference to retrenched workers and their families whilst they search for their next employment opportunity.  Together, we can get through this challenging time and help each other to build a #CityofGood. 

Support Workers In Financial Distress

NTUC - U Care Fund believes that every worker matters. Since 2009, it has provided care and support to workers who are affected by the economic downturn. At present, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused financial distress to many families as companies embark on cost-cutting measures.

Each dollar helps low-income union members and their families.
 

Contribute Towards A Family''s Groceries

Children''s Wishing Well supports the daily living needs of children from low-income families. During this time, many children under their care are going through hard times due to the uncertain job climate. Some of the families have their incomes badly affected, while others have lost their jobs.

Each dollar helps to provide groceries that can feed the family. 

Assist Needy Families

Through the Caring Amidst COVID-19 Fund, Lakeside Family Services offers immediate assistance to needy individuals and families who have been adversely affected by COVID-19. Some have lost their jobs, while others had their salary cut by 50% or more.

Your donation will help meet their basic needs such as: daily food and household expenses, utility bills and wifi/data charges, medical fees and other emergency expenses. 

Help The Vulnerable Make A Living

The Community Foundation of Singapore has initiated the LIFT (Learning Initiatives for Employment) Community Impact Fund to support programmes that provide vocational training and social support for marginalised groups in Singapore.

It aims to help them secure sustained employment in the food and beverage industry in Singapore. Your support will help the vulnerable make a living, improve their self-esteem and become more involved with society.

We are grateful for all the educators in Singapore who have been resilient throughout this COVID-19 period in order to shape our next generation. Let us support what they are doing by helping students at-risk and their families in need.

Empowering Students With Autism

The Eden Care Fund by Autism Association (Singapore) offers help to needy students with autism and their families who are affected by COVID-19. The pandemic has threatened the livelihood of many, and compounded the suffering of families whose loved ones have lost their jobs. 

Your donation will help these students with their monthly programme fees as well as have access to daily meals, school uniforms, transport services and learning materials.
 

Help Provide Face Shields For Schools

Character and Leadership Academy Limited''s #KidsShieldForce aims to equip children with comfortable face shields in schools. For children, wearing masks for prolonged period have hampered their learning. The provision of face shields ensures proper and comfortable protective equipment would not affect a child''s day at school.

Your donation will allow a kid to learn comfortably. 

Encourage Youth Mentorship 

New Life Community Services provides a safe community and positive environment for youths who come from all walks of life. Every youth needs a mentor. Through play-based and skills-based programmes, mentors develop a trusting relationship with youths and guide them through their struggles and challenges in life. 

Every dollar will help cover the cost of mentoring a youth.

Humanitarian aid is vital to save lives and reduce suffering during emergencies.

Within Singapore, over half of our foreign workforce is made up of 587,000 foreign domestic workers and construction workers in Singapore. Let us be other-centred and help safeguard their well-being and standard of living.

Integrating Our Domestic Workers

The Domestic Employee Welfare Fund (DEWF) was established to help distressed domestic employees who approach the Centre for Domestic Employees (CDE) for assistance. DEWF serves to provide temporary shelter and medical support, and promote social integration through engagement activities.

Your contribution towards the DEWF will support the efforts of helping our domestic workers.

Improving the Welfare of Guest Workers

Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics (HOME) is dedicated to improving the welfare and upholding the rights of guest workers in Singapore. HOME runs a shelter for the workers and offers legal assistance, health education and vocational training.

Your donation will help to provide housing and food to the distressed migrant workers.

Caring for the Wellbeing of Guest Workers

Transient Workers Count Too is dedicated to improving conditions for the guest workers in Singapore. TWC2 helps to secure fair treatment of guest workers and resolve the work-related or personal distress of these workers and their employers.

Support TWC2 in their efforts to help advocate for better policies and to improve the well-being of our guest workers.

Give & Double Your Impact

The impact of your giving is now DOUBLED! As part of the Fortitude Budget, the government is matching online donations dollar-for-dollar till 31 Mar 2021. The Government is partnering Tote Board to provide charities with dollar-for-dollar matching, capped at $250,000 per charity for donations raised through approved fund-raising projects commencing from 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2021.
 

Join this effort to strengthen support for charities that have seen a drop in donations during this challenging period. With over 550 registered charities and 14 causes you can support on Giving.sg, you can impact twice the number of lives, families and communities in our #CityofGood.

Breast cancer remains the leading cancer among women in Singapore. Based on the Singapore Cancer Registry 50th Anniversary Monograph, 1 in 13 women will be affected by breast cancer in their lifetime. 

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, let''s show our support by empowering women to stay in the pink of health and live a life free from cancer. 

United In Battling Breast Cancer

As we are approaching the end of the year and getting ready to celebrate the festivities, why not spend our holidays meaningfully by volunteering our time and skills to impact lives and spread some holiday cheer? ??

Empower and Engage Minds

The Down Syndrome Association is dedicated to serving the needs of individuals with Down syndrome and their families. The Adult Enhancement Programme (AEP) aims to help develop lifelong functional and self-care skills, community integration and job preparation. DSA requires activity facilitators to help them in this programme.
 

Support the programme by assisting the training officers to train, supervise, maintain and develop the functions skills of AEP partners.

Integrate Our Seniors 

NTUC Health offers volunteers the opportunity to serve in the different programmes and services that they offer. Varying home visits to centre-based volunteering activities, volunteers play an important part in providing care, support and a listening ear to the seniors. 

With your support, seniors will have opportunities for interactive activities and will be able to feel a sense of belonging to the community.

"Balik Kampung" to our Garden City

"Balik Kampung" literally means "going back to our village" in our local Malay language. At Kampung Kampus, Home of Ground-Up Initiative (GUI), take some time to reconnect with the Earth through its farming and nature clean-up programmes, and pause to reflect on our stewardship of the world.

Join us in raising funds for 15 Children & Youth charities. These charities have suffered up to an 80% drop in donations because of the postponement or cancellation of physical fund-raising events.

Award-winning comedian Chua Enlai
joins us in Episode 5!

We hope you have been enjoying The City of Good Show series so far, and it has inspired you to make a difference in the lives of beneficiaries during this challenging season. In Episode 5, we have Chua Enlai in the house!   
 

Enlai is known for his work on nine seasons of the International Emmy-nominated The Noose, for which he's won the Asian Television Award for Best Comedy Performance in 2010 and 2013. It has just concluded its special edition season The Noose Gets Smart in 2020.

The Unwavering Love of Fathers

A father''s love is timeless ????? This Father''s Day, we want to honour Mr Chua''s unwavering love towards his son, Yie Shyan.

Mr Chua was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer nine years ago, and has since stopped working to support Yie Shyan with his daily needs. Despite the odds, Mr Chua remains positive and cares for his son lovingly with the support of Home Nursing Foundation.

Our main environmental issues are food security, plastic waste, threats to biodiversity and food waste, and green initiatives are vital in tackling these issues and slowing the effects of climate change.

A COVID-19 Rally For Singapore''s Arts

COVID-19 has been unprecedented in how it has affected life here and around the world. Our arts and culture scene in Singapore has not been spared. Performances, shows, exhibitions and other arts and cultural events which are the beating heart of the arts community and the nation's cultural life, have been cancelled or deferred. This has dealt a crippling blow to our arts companies and artists.
