Data Science for Managers at the University of Washington’s Global Innovation Exchange

• Dates: January 11^th – January 22^nd, 2021
• Duration: 10 half days, 8am – noon PST

Focus

This deep-dive into data science offers a balance between theory and practice, with visualizations, demonstrations, exercises, case studies and projects. Attendees will learn by doing through conceptual lectures, discussions, exercises, and mini-projects.

• Mid-sized to large companies: Sr. Managers and Directors in engineering, technical product and program management, R&D, sales, marketing and HR roles
• Startups and small companies: Leaders of engineering, innovation, product, R&D, sales, marketing and HR teams

Instructor

Data Science for Managers will be taught by Professor Kenneth Younge, a partner of GIX, an Associate Professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, the chair of the Technology and Innovation Strategy Lab, Program Director for Data Science for Managers, and a leader in his field. He currently teaches Master’s courses on data science for business, a doctoral course on computational methods for management, an IML course on data science for logistics, and an executive MBA course on technology and innovation strategy. His research focuses on computational economics and digital transformation. His doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers collaborate with a wide range of Swiss and US companies on ongoing research projects, and he has started four companies and worked in the roles of Director of Development, Consultant, CTO, and President.

Preparation

• No prior training in data science is required to take Data Science for Managers, but some knowledge of Python will help attendees get the most out of the course
• At a minimum, we suggest students who are not familiar with Python complete the 7-hour Python tutorial by Kaggle before the course to ensure a productive experience. Doing so will help them follow along with the demos and project solutions covered in class.
