Hi all, The team at Golden has been hard at work on a number of fronts - scaling the data we ingest into Golden, improving our interfaces for public and paid users, and features that make Golden more useful and powerful to use. For Golden Research Engine clients, Lists allow you to collect entities and topics of interest into a custom list view, rendering both canonical and private fields as columns. This allows you to take advantage of both the canonical and constantly-updating public knowledge that Golden provides with the private and detailed knowledge your organization has on topics. Check out more information below in the Product update section. All users can take advantage of the numerous features we added to make it faster and easier to add data to Golden, including an improved AI-assisted editor tool, specific funding round addition workflows, and more. Finally, we're hiring at Golden! Check out the Get Involved section at the bottom to learn more. Community update
Y Combinator S20 Demo Day: Nearly 200 companies presented at the latest Y Combinator Demo Day. You can use Golden to check out the list of the 194 companies that publicly presented. (Golden Research Engine customers can see more data fields and do custom queries to dig into more information about this or any other Y Combinator batch.) COVID-19 public queries: We've made multiple queries from the Golden Research Engine available to the public. They include a list of COVID-19 testing companies, a list of companies aiming to create a COVID-19 vaccine, and companies making respirators. Check them out! Rolling Venture Funds: Angellist has pioneered a new concept of Rolling Venture Funds. Check out the topic page to learn more. (And thanks to Chris Harvey, a lawyer specialising in venture capital, for your contribution!) Product update: Research Engine
Canonical information, meet private data on Lists
Lists are a way to create a custom list of topics and entities on Golden in one place. You can create a spreadsheet from canonical data Golden has on the entity/topic but also add your own private fields. We have added various features including the ability to customize the columns of data, collaborate with your team and rearrange rows. Example use cases include corporate M&A teams keeping tabs on potential acquisition targets, venture capital and private equity teams assembling companies in the sector they invest into, and users keeping track of interesting people in any given field. Here are a number of things you can now do with lists: Private fields / annotations: Users can now add private fields to canonical entities and topics in their list. Golden will keep the core, authoritative and canonical information up-to-date; you can add your own notes and private information in separate columns visible only to users in your organization. For example, you could create a list of interesting companies, then add a private column with the point-of-contact for that relationship in your team, another private column for the contact email, and another to keep notes about each company. We're really excited about this feature and would love your feedback. Rapid prototyping: Golden makes it easy to rename, share, and delete lists. Simply click on the dots in your organization's index of lists, or when you're viewing a specific list just click on the title. Keyboard shortcut: When you're viewing a list, use command+shift+A to quickly add a new topic to the list. Search within lists: For longer lists there is a search bar to the top right of your list to find specific topics or entities. Export your lists: It's now simple to export any list to a CSV file. Simply click the "Export list" and you'll get a CSV of all the data you see on your list. Drag-and-drop to sort lists: The topics in your list are now sortable, with a drag-and-drop interface. Click on the two lines at the far left of any row in your list to sort the list in the specific order you want. Product update: CommunityTopic disambiguation menu: There are places throughout Golden where contributors can add structured data connecting two or more entities together e.g. a founder to the company they founded, competitors to a company, locations where a company has offices, and many more. Sometimes, topics and entities have very similar names making it hard to know which one should be selected. We've made it easier to select the correct topic or entity by getting extra disambiguation information context. Just select "See all results" from the menu in order to view more information that should be sufficient to disambiguate between topics. Adding funding rounds is now easier: We now have a specific flow for adding funding rounds to companies. When editing a company topic page, locate the "Funding Round" section, click "Add new record". Notice the automatic round name generation based on the data that is entered... AI-assisted editor now auto detects locations, addresses, contact details and mobile app store links: The AI-assisted editor feature makes it easy to capture data on a topic quickly, and we've made it more powerful. It will now identify locations from addresses, public contact details such as phone numbers and email addresses, and links to mobile apps on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Golden nuggetsSoftware As a Medical Device (SaMD) is software made for one or more medical uses without requiring a medical hardware device for its use. SaMD products are sets of algorithms operating with data inputs to produce outputs for medical purposes as defined by the products manufacturer. G4 EA H1N1 is a strain of the H1N1 swine flu that was determined in 2020 to have characteristics that make it a candidate pandemic virus. Pneumatic Logic is a system that uses pneumatics to perform functions traditionally found in electrical control systems. It is generally used for controlling industrial processes. K-Line is a Japanese shipping and logistics company that was founded in 1919. A Gated Linear Network is a family of back propagation-free neural architectures, used in machine learning. Hi all, The last few months have seen Golden shift to a remote / work-from-home culture due to the California stay-at-home orders, but that hasn't stopped us from launching a number of new features, such as new clusters, better data on strategic partnerships and business models, a cleaner Explore page, and a better way of saving interesting topics to your Watching and Favorites lists. For Golden Research Engine clients, we've made sweeping improvements to the lists feature, making lists far more powerful and useful to each individual in an organization. We've also made a significant upgrade to query templates, and your organizations dashboards for saved queries, lists, and research requests are now more flexible and configurable with filters and sorting options. Product Update: Community
RNA Therapeutics cluster: Check out Golden's new cluster of knowledge about RNA-based and RNA-targeted therapeutics. Brain-computer interface cluster: We've also added a cluster focused on research organizations, companies, and technologies related to brain-computer interface systems. Data on strategic partnerships, business models, competition: We've made a number of additions to our data schema recently. We've added support to capture strategic partnerships between companies, and fields to detail business models, competition, links to mobile apps, and more. If there are ever data types you'd like us to capture, please get in touch. COVID-19 public queries: We've created two public queries of Golden data that are relevant to the current pandemic - a list of video-conferencing companies and a list of companies developing vaccines or immuntherapies for COVID-19. Cleaner Explore page: Explore has a brand new, cleaner look making it easier for you to discover Clusters. Jump into emerging fields of knowledge on Golden: http://golden.com/explore. Improved interface for your Favorites & Watching lists: Every Golden user (that hasn't set their account as private) has two lists by default. Favorites is your public list of topics you have favorited, and Watching is your private list of topics you have saved. Use the 'Save to List' button on any topic to add to either of your lists. Research Engine Updates
Lists feature - significant changes: We've made a massive number of upgrades to the lists feature in Golden, making it much more powerful and useful to Golden Research Engine users. Customize a List's columns: Each list begins with a basic set of columns, and you can add any additional columns of Golden data that are relevant to that list. Whether it's data on company funding, where and when a company was incorporated, or social media links, each list can be customized to your needs. Add topics to a list from a topic page: It's easy to add topics to lists. On each topic page the "Save to list" menu now allows you to quickly add the topic to any List in your organization. Collaborate with colleagues on lists: List contruction and editing are collaborative across you organization. This makes it very easy to collaborate on common initiatives. Filters and updated interface: We created filters to quickly find exactly what you want in your organization's tables of lists, saved queries, and research requests. You can filter by who created the list, or query, or research request, and filter (or sort) by the date it was created. The Research Request dashboard has additional filtering and sorting options on the status of the research request. Updated templates: It is now easier to kick start a query by launching commonly used Templates such as 'Companies by Industry and Location'. If you need some help getting started with the Research Engine query tool, then start with one of these templates. Query - convert to text: If you cannot find the Industry, Location, CEO, Founder, Investor, Product, or Accelerator you're looking for by way of structured data, use the new 'Convert to Text Search' option to search through the entity text. (If you still can't find what you're looking for, you can submit a Research Request.) New organization Home page: The Home page for your organization now features the most recent activity, including new research requests, lists, and saved queries. This is particularly useful when collaborating with multiple people in your organization, to see what everyone is working on in one place. Research request feedback: We've added a text box to Golden's research request feedback form. In addition to choosing your level of satisfaction with the research, you can send us more details, which will help us learn and serve you better in the future.
