On the Gornergrat the most beautiful time of the year is just beginning: appreciate nature�s magnificent works in perfect clarity, either on foot or by mountain bike. And the best is: between 16. The Indian summer on the Gornergrat | It won�t only be the landscape showing its golden side: between 16. September and 27. October you can buy your RailAway combi-ticket with a 50% reduction for the trip with the Gornergrat Railway. The combi-ticket means that you need to travel to us on public transport. The offer is available on www.railaway.ch and also at all Swiss Railway ticket offices.

Hiking tip

The Matterhorn is so close | Autumn is the best time for hiking � apart from the exceptionally clear visibility, the deep blue sky and pleasant temperatures � nature excels itself with colour; bright yellows, oranges or reds. Hiking from Rotenboden to Riffelalp brings autumn�s colours to life as the tones vary around every bend. During the first part of the hike the amazing panorama of 29, four thousand-metre peaks surrounds you and at the end you can marvel at the golden arven-pine forest on the Riffelalp.

Steep and rocky | The legendary finale of the �Enduro World Series� for mountain bikers is coming to Zermatt for the first time on 21. September 2019. The world�s best bikers will be racing against each other on 5 different trails. Spectators can watch the races from various spots and could ideally combine watching with their own bike tour or a hike. The steep, rocky trails on the Gornergrat are among the spectacular highlights that will demand everything from the competing bikers.

Christmas being just around the corner, maybe you are wondering how to make someone happy? We have some great ideas for you � a fondue party in an igloo, snowshoe hikes with great food and lots more. Since 1898 we have been running with energy efficiency | The Matterhorn Railway has been travelling up and down to our popular excursion mountain since 1898 using a technology known as �recuperation�, which wins back power on the way down. The recuperated energy goes back into the power network and is used again for upward journeys. Three trips down produce enough energy for an upward journey.

We are open | Since 6. June we are allowed to reopen the Gornergrat Bahn. Together with you, we are looking forward to a Swiss mountain summer.

Are you one of those who had a birthday during lockdown and couldn''t celebrate it properly? No problem - we will celebrate it afterwards! We invite all those born under Aries, Taurus or Gemini to the Gornergrat all summer long - free of charge. Let us help you to make yourself a somewhat different, belated birthday present.

Lockdown birthday? We have a present for you!

A birthday better late than never | We're offering all those born under Aries, Taurus or Gemini a free ticket to the Gornergrat. Those birthday "boys and girls" can make up for having had lockdown birthdays with a trip to the mountains above Zermatt.
How does it work? It's very simple: go to the Gornergrat Railway ticket office in Zermatt or in T?sch with a valid identity card where you will receive your free, birthday ticket.

The over-all measures of the protection concept apply to public transport. These include the urgent recommendation to wear masks if the two metre distance from other guests cannot be maintained.

From seven in the morning until sunset | This year the Swiss summer has been generous with wonderful weather, highly inviting for everyone to spend their leisure time outside in the fresh air. For the perfect excursion you need the perfect provisions; from a picnic offer to a pop-up restaurant on the Riffelberg you can look forward to several new catering ideas on the mountain and ample time to enjoy the views and some delicious food while you are up there. During the longest days of the year the Gornergrat Railway runs from 7.00 am to 8.00 pm for our guests, giving visitors the perfect opportunity to watch the sun setting at 3,100 metres.

Pop-up restaurant Riffelberg

'Gommer Cholera' and grill specialities | Due to the current situation some of our mountain restaurants have had to remain closed. Without further ado we have opened a pop-up restaurant on the popular Riffelberg. It offers simple catering in the open air. What about a Gommer 'Cholera' - a savoury vegetable pie - or a tasty barbecue sausage?

Seasonal greetings | our times are uncertain - but Christmas will certainly come, just as the Gornergrat Railway will take you up to an alpine world of white. The FHS rules are guaranteed with us: Face covered, Hands washed and Space between people - but we prefer: Forget your problems, Heavenly blue skies and Savour pure nature. Delight in our clear winter air and intact snow-covered mountains. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Travelling over the Christmas holidays

Protection concept | we are expecting considerable numbers of people in the Gornergrat trains during the Christmas and sports holidays. Apart from the mandatory masks in our protection concept we are reducing the number of passengers per train to 50% of normal capacity. In the waiting area in the valley station the number of people allowed in will be reduced to 250 persons.

Your seat guaranteed without queueing

Priority boarding | Since 19. December you have again the chance to make use of our 'priority boarding' offer. When you reserve places in a particular train you are also securing your early admission to the Gornergrat train before all the other passengers. In the station boarding area you go to the separate boarding entrance where the train doors will be opened allowing you to board before the other passengers get on. Like this you can be sure to find the best seats and the chance to admire the Matterhorn. This extra service costs CHF 10.00 in the mornings and CHF 5.00 in the afternoons. We recommend you make your booking directly online and save yourself waiting in a queue at the ticket counter.
