Join consultant Bob Lloyd as he discusses managing grant acquired property.

Agencies that award USG grants and cooperative agreements are on a mission—to assure that recipients and subrecipients “establish and maintain effective internal control” over property acquired with the funds made available to them.

The rules for use, management, reporting and disposal are complicated and they vary depending on what types of assets are involved—equipment, supplies, real estate, or intellectual property. But, across the board, a couple of things are certain. Compliance with the applicable requirements is readily auditable and findings of noncompliance almost always demonstrate deficiencies of internal control. So it’s small wonder that auditors spend time looking at what they consider low hanging fruit. With grant-acquired property so much in the cross hairs, it makes sense to gain a solid understanding of the applicable requirements and what your organization needs to do to safeguard these federally funded assets.

Dear Evelyn,

When we first launched SocialEx, Humentum''s podcast, we did so intending to provide a platform to showcase inspiring stories from across the humanitarian and development sector. Working with almost 300+ member and client organizations globally, we are fortunate to hear many remarkable stories every day. To date, our guests have explored nonprofit leadership, project management for global development projects, and gaming for peace and conflict resolution in South Sudan, to note a few. More recently, we have featured conversations on compliance and risk management, and the effects of COVID-19 on mental health.

In light of the Kenyan government's ban on international conferences due to the COVID-19 outbreak and in alignment with Humentum’s commitment to the health and safety of our event attendees, we recently postponed our in-person conference, OpEx East Africa.

Instead, we are pleased to announce that we will be offering this conference virtually June 1-5, now called OpEx Africa Online!

We are already a leading provider of online learning, so this will be the first time we are taking that to the next level with an online conference, putting Africa at the forefront of these discussions and actions. By adopting this new format, we can launch a more inclusive conversation on some of the most critical issues facing the global development sector today.

Launch of IFR4NPO financial reporting consultation paper

January 2021

With input from a global network of advisors including national accounting standard setters, donors (including USAID), non-profits, and auditors, the IFR4NPO team has spent the last year getting feedback from a wide range of stakeholders for the Consultation paper, which will launch on 28 January 2021. We hope Humentum member organizations will respond with your input! This initiative is relevant if you are a user of grantee financial reports, or prepare these as a national or international NGO.
